Or how about REM's version of "Wichita Lineman" (though I could swear in this version Stipe sings "that stretch down south won't ever stand the pain." Sheesh.)
One of my favouirite covers of an Original Song is "A Whiter Shade of Pale" from Johnny Rivers:
It's from the Realization album (as pictured in the video) which follows on from his hit song "Summer Rain", so for me it seems logical to have another Classy Song follow-on from another!
Another interesting cover song from that album is "Hey Joe" - which is quite eerie in a way for Johnny!
I'm a big fan of Johnny Rivers! "Summer Rain" was among the biggest of the sixteen hits making the CHUM Toronto charts between 1964 and 1977.
You should get the whole album which has "Summer Rain" on it cause it really is a great album. I've got it as a 2 Album CD which gives you his "Rewind" album which has his two popular hit cover songs "Tracks Of My Tears" and "Baby I Need Your Loving" which has a bunch of cracking Jimmy Webb songs on it. Both great albums which are usually overlooked cause Johnny Rivers is usually considered a Singles man or goes Live at the Whiskey a Go Go.
SSV, have to go with CCR's version of Heard it though the Grapevine.
Some good covers posted all the way along here, not a fan or Korn's cover of PF though.
A much better PF cover is Dream Theater's version of the entire Dark Side of the Moon album live in concert...speaking of which I will have to do a DT thread, even if I am the Only fan of theirs in the house.
