Cover Versions : love 'em or hate 'em...

Three Santana covers that are at least as good as the originals are Peter Green's Black Magic Woman and Rod Argent's She's Not There, both from Moonflower in 1977, and Buddy Holly's Well All Right from Inner Secrets, released the following year. All three are sung by the versatile Greg Walker, who was replaced by Alex Ligertwood from David Sancious & Tone. Walker was an excellent singer, but I do not know what happened to him. By this stage, Santana was moving away from the latin/blues/jazz rock towards a more AOR hard rock style, which was clearly no bad thing.

I remember She's Not There being a shining beacon of a hit single, at the height of punk rock in the UK. I chose Well All Right from YT because it is unusual to hear a Buddy Holly song as hard rock, and it works really well.
