Sorry, haven't listened to everything in this topic (it's already long!), but I did skim through it to make sure I wasn't just adding stuff that others have already posted.

You could do a whole topic just on Beatles covers. Here's some of my favorites:

Spore - "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"

The Breeders - "Happiness Is A Warm Gun"

Chisato Moritaka - "Everybody's Got Something to Hide (Except For Me and My Monkey)"

Pixies - "Wild Honey Pie"

Dirtiest sound from a goldtop...
Frijid Pink - House Of The Rising Sun.
Just thought if you thought The Animals version of House Of The Rising Sun was original, it's also a Cover Song! House of The Rising Sun is a Traditional Folk Song, so I've got no idea who the Original was. Woody Guthrie performed it in the 1940s with The Almanac Singers, according to Google it was originally recorded by Clarence Ashley in 1932 though being a Traditional Folk song the Original was probably never recorded!

Was House Of The Rising Sun from the 1930s?......covers done well are brilliant-Ryan Adams version of Wonderwall in particular.
I think I did a Dylan covers thread somewhere .
You're right about Beatles version....hundreds of them- this old Shawnee cut this in '65.
Link Wray- Please Please Me.

Apparently, I haven't heard that one, though the song came to my attention when I got interested in Pete Seeger along with the Almanac Singers where Woody Guthrie was a prominent member of the band. The Animals probably turn to the original version, though I haven't heard it, I imagine it's a somewhat Bluesy song which would suit the like of the early Animals.

I'm familiar with Ryan Adams cover of Wonderwall, it was in a TV Drama show where I 1st heard it, there's also another version and for many years it was driving me mad cause I'd seen a snippet of it in the late 90s on TV, eventually the Internet caught up with that version which was a bit of a hit in the 90s by the Mike Flowers Pops, there was an interview with one (or both) of the Gallaghers guys that claimed this was the original! :lmao:

Thanks for the welcome! That's a great cover!

Here's some of my favorite Pink Floyd covers:

Alien Sex Fiend - "Echoes"

Melvins - "Interstellar Overdrive"

Voivod - "Astronomy Domine (full single version)"

Primus - "Have A Cigar"
