I'm not usually a person who goes along with the crowd, especially when it comes to a bands most popular music. (their radio stuff)

Usually, the stuff that gets airplay is bland and inoffensive, therefore, appeals to a larger crowd of 'passive listeners'.

But in this case, I feel Comfortably Numb is arguably one of Floyd's most popular cuts, and also one of their most masterful pieces of music.

A great song trandscends generations, and kids today love this song.

Need proof?

My 18 year old daughter told me she loves this song so much, she can barely listen to it.

"Why??"

"Because it almost makes me cry every time I listen to it."

So there you have it.

Anyhow, we have a song with two great lead solos. Which do you prefer, the first or the second?

I voted for the first one
Reason being the first one is a teaser of things to come,The second one has more depth&feeling but signals the end of the tune in which I did not want to end,If that makes any sense.

The second one obviously. It's long, it has more feeling. It's indescribable how good that solo really is.

Yea, I've gotta go with the 2nd one too.

The first one is more controlled.

The second one really captures an emotional state. The wheels are coming off, and it's too late to do anything about. A lot of pain in that solo.

To me, it's always been far more than a song, for sure. It is truly a work of art. Just brilliant.
