One of my favorite bands to emerge from the '90s, & actually survive into the 21st century...is Collective Soul.

Just about every album they have put out has @ least several songs that have a timeless melodicism to them, along with meaningful lyrics.

In a lot of ways, these guys remind me of '60s bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival, with simple, straight ahead, unpretentious instrumentation & uplifting themes.

I recently watched (several times) the Direct TV broadcast of Collective Soul performing live with the Atlanta Youth Orchestra. I was blown away with the enthusiasm of both the band & orchestra, & the audience response.

Anybody else out there have thoughts or opinions regarding this relatively new group?

Re: Collective Soul

I have always wonder what ever happened to them. the jst vanished. I love them to in the mid 90's and still like the shinedown song :)

I love Collective Soul. They are suppose to release a new album in August of this year.

Re: Collective Soul

I liked the original lineup a lot, but when Ross Childress left the band, I lost interest. The new guitarist (Joel someone) is just... sterile. He doesn't have quite the chops and his tone is pretty bland to my ears. Kind of the same fate as Our Lady Peace, when Mike Turner left the band.

Everything from Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid right up to Blender is quite good, though. I'm pretty sure I have all of those in my CD collection:grinthumb

About as straight forward a rock band that I think I own! For some reason this is one of those bands I buy nearly every release from and rarely get hooked on an album. They are talented but I can only hear them in small doses without feeling like it's monotonous. I agree with most with their self titled being their best release. I love:

The World I Know

I also love

Run (from Dosage)

Youth

was their other great album with

Better Now

Counting The Days

and

Under Heavens Skies

I know Magic is a big fan of this band, but I don't have any of their CD's, I might have to pick up their self titled one seeing you all think it's the best of their catalog.

Re: Collective Soul

I always enjoyed Collective Soul's music. To me, they stand out for one reason.

I've never seen a band go from being a successful, popular, platinum selling band down to recording albums for independent labels so quickly and suddenly as Collective Soul.

Re: Collective Soul

Collective Soul is another one of the few started in the 90's bands that I got into. What impressed me most is they have an actual body of work as opposed to the typical pattern I saw happen with a lot of 90's (and beyond) bands of the big first album the lukewarm second album then disappearing into oblivion. Also what got my attention is hearing cello in some of their songs! Again, this is another band I admit I've neglected for awhile. I have the first two CD's then another one ... used to have more ... I should go about picking up some more of the later CD's. They did a thing (live show) some years ago I remember seeing on VH-1 Classic and liked. I might even have recorded it to a VHS tape.

The World I Know (love the strings in this)

I remember December was a big hit off their first album.
