My favorite of these is easily Sabbath. I'm not into NWOBHM, CoB, CoF, Deicide or Amorphis. I do like Rammstein a lot but not as much as Sabbath.

But as far as "not played on classic rock radio" goes there are a lot of metal bands I'd put above all of 'em such as Burzum, Darkthrone, Pantera, and Entombed. On the other side of the coin I bet Metallica probably gets some play on certain "classic rock" stations and they could well be my favorite metal band of all.

So this seems a bit rigged.
No bands such as Down, Ghost, Mastodon, High On Fire, Sleep, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Warbringer, Torche, Baroness, Kylesa etc under the new bands? Just death metal / black metal bands?

Did you know their goverments pays them (music students) to go to school and even buys their instruments of choice ?!?!?! Not only that but they keep their noses out of what they want to play. Unheard of ...no wonder there are so many great bands hailing from such a tiny region.

At least in Finland school is (almost) free for all, but the government doesn't pay anyone to go to school and you have to buy all your instruments yourself. And not everyone can get into public music schools...

I don't know about Sweden, Norway and Denmark, though.

That was too general of a statement that I made. I think it is Norway I'm thinking of. I read a interview (w/ a band that escapes me at the moment) where the band member made that statement about his home country. Again, I believe it was Norway he was referring to.

Sabbath with Motorhead, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest nipping at their heels, four brilliant bands. However there are some great new metal bands knocking about 4 sure.

Deicide doesn't even fall under todays metal so I agree. lol
Death Metal is not today's metal considering it started in the 1980s. I did vote Deicide because I love my classic death metal.
