The lands of Marshall Stack.
the stones helped out chuck in his later years, but i never heard him say a good thing about them in interviews.
...a man with a renowned ego(in the nicest way!)..didn't need to openly declare anything...he did quite often to Julian Lennon about his late Father, John.
He had a mutual respect I'd say-coupled with some hero worship from the Stones.Chuck was extremely complimentary about Keith & Brian's guitar work when he visited them at Studio .1 at Chess.Bill spotted him peeking in as they were cutting Don Raye's song ;Down The Road Apiece...perfected by Berry.
Rolling Stones - Down The Road Apiece.

Ian Stewart politely suggested they record the next number at a "slower pace",so not to worry old Anderson Berry about his 'crown' especially on home turf.
Rolling Stones - Reelin' and Rockin'.

...Chuck was invited to join in on the '69 Tour of the States to fill in for BB.King who was contractually obligated. Keith saw he was paid 'upfront'.
I've always viewed Chuck Berry as an innovator and craftsman of riff and lyric.
A time served penitentiary man ,who was tough and protective of his craft....maybe felt he needn't kiss ass to no brit...especially copying him riff for riff.
I saw the Stones perform Let It Rock....Keith was on fire!

I have recently re-watched The London Rock n Roll Show held at the old Wembley stadium in north west London and recorded in August 1972 and on the bill is Heinz, Screaming Lord Sutch, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Little Richard & Chuck Berry who is 'top of the bill' (apparently The MC-5 played as well but weren't featured in the film) anyway during Chuck's set the 'power was cut' although it was restored a few minutes later so he could finish his last song or two anyway during the last number which may have been Reelin' & Rockin' Chuck's guitar his 'cherry red Gibson 335' is towards the end of his set is 'way out of tune' so he goes straight over to the backing band's guitarist of the House Shakers backing him and the long haired guitarist who's playing a Gibson Firebird quickly exchanges his Firebird for Chuck's 335 and then Chuck quickly carries on with the final part of the song playing that Firebird that was 'in tune' and I must say seeing Chuck playing that Gibson Firebird looked pretty good in Chucks hands and maybe he should have kept using a Gibson Firebird thereafter although I know the Gibson 335 was his trademark 1950s rock & roll axe but that Gibson Firebird guitar gave him a bit of a updated look!!.
