Chinese government cancels Bon Jovi concerts, report says

Add Bon Jovi to the list of artists scheduled to perform in China, only to have their concerts canceled due to some sort of affiliation with the Dalai Lama.

The iconic New Jersey rockers were scheduled to perform in Shanghai and Beijing next week, as part of an Asian tour that begins Friday in Indonesia.

But AEG Live Asia Tuesday said in a statement the performances are canceled "for unforeseen reasons."

BBC News reports government officials nixed the two shows — billed as the band's first-ever China concerts — apparently because Bon Jovi used an image of the Dalai Lama as a backdrop at a performance in 2010.

In July, pop-rockers Maroon 5 also lost shows in the country after one of the band members tweeted happy birthday to the Dalai Lama, BBC said.

Others banned from public appearances due to their apparent support of the Tibetan religious leader include Bjork, Linkin Park, and various politicians and academics.

Last month, Jon Bon Jovi recorded a cover of the popular Chinese song "The Moon Represents My Heart," in Mandarin, for fans awaiting the band.
