^^I could turn that around and say the same thing. Just because a song was a hit doesn't make it any less quality, just that a lot of people enjoyed it.

The fact the Doobies morphed into a different band after McDonald joined and yet still enjoyed success is also a testament that they were a good band.

Whenever anyone wonders what a fantastic band with two drummers sounds like, play any of their records up to Takin' it to the Street, one of the few bands to use two drummers and did a great job with it too.

LG.. The Doobies and ZZ Top were FM's most played bands during the 70's.. The Pre Michael McDonald days were so much better for the Doobies.. But think about this..
When Tres Hombres came out there wasn't a bad song on the album.. La Grange was probably the most played right from the start on the radio..
The Doobies were bouncing hits off the walls back then..
Listen To The Music
Jesus Is Just Alright
Black Water

Those were tunes they played along with "China Grove" back then..
La Grange just had a better feel to it and steam rolled over the Doobies songs..:heheh:JMO..
