Child In Time VS Children of The Sea

I love both tunes, but Child In Time holds much more nostalgic value for me. Especially the live version.

Definitely Dio-led Sabbath here. Children of the Sea is awesome.


I know I'm in the minority, but after years of listening to Child in Time, I STILL can't figure out why people love that tune so much. It's too long and quite boring through a lot of it. Not saying it's a bad tune, not at all. But I certainly can't see or understand the praise it constantly gets. The proverbial buildups are good and the main guitar solo in the middle is good, but there's a lot of goofy dead-airish noise that I just find out of place.

I'm with ya on that! I'm mystified that Child In Time is so highly regarded. It always seems to me that they were trying to cover their lack of ambition or inspiration with bombast. It starts off kinda cool ( love that organ sound at the beginning) and then never really goes anywhere...just gets louder...same chord progression over and over and over, ad nauseum.
In general I like Deep Purple alot more than Black Sabbath but I don't think Child In Time represents them well. Children Of The Sea is a good tune and it's got Ronnie James Dio instead of Ozzy ( BIG bonus! )
