Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman struck gold with "Bat Out Of Hell" back in 1977. Now granted it started as a trickle but one way or another an album that was written off by practically everyone managed to rise to become one of the highest selling albums ever and was launched in the heart of the punk movement of all times.
After over a decade of numerous issues Meat and Jim got back together and took the world by storm a second time with "Bat Out Of Hell II" and once again it was shrugged off. Yet again however the album snowballed into a mega hit and topped charts worldwide when grunge and hip-hop were the popular things to listen to, which is definitely not anywhere near Meat's music.

Now my question to you is do you think Meat can rise back to the top a third time or after the limited level of success of "Bat III" do you that was his last hoora high up on the charts?

I think, he is an artist with many devoted fans, but he likely won't appeal to the mainstream in the same way he was able to back in the day. It is the intimate fanbase, though, that really makes it a pleasure to know and love his music. (Or so I assume and have found with other particularly lesser-known (or somewhat under the radar of the general population) artists.)

Being really huge (musically) in this day and age for someone with actual talent and passion for what they do, and appealing to a huge (comparable to the success of Bat out of Hell back in the day) chunk of the population is just so unlikely, but .. then again it boils down to having a fanbase that's not overrun with assholes.

I voted "Who knows..."! If he surprised everybody the first two times then shouldn't the third be a surprise as well! ;) The thing working against him is the albums that succeeded were in the "Bat Out of Hell" series and since the last "Bat Out of Hell" was the first to fail in the series comparatively then it seems like he's played his last card. Meat hasn't been consistent label wise and the last thing I think he's had going for him was that franchise. My question would be why do we as Meatloaf fans care about his sales that much as long as he finds a way to put out music? :D

I voted Of Course...this last album wasn't too shabby!!

I think he can do it though...my thoughts on how??

Make a majestic yet SIMPLE album like Bat Out Of Hell was....you know 35 to 40 minutes in length...maybe 7 or 8 REALLY good songs. Do it with Jim.

Too much information for alot of new fans when you're over an hour in length. Just my opinion.

Meatloaf needs more quality and less quanity.

But I love him anyway. :grinthumb

I agree! The last album, Hang Cool... was pretty fair (I actually preferred Couldn't Have Said It Better over that as a none BOOH album) but it was a little bloated as an album IMO! :)

Well look at the original Bat Out Of Hell...what makes it sooo good.

It sticks in the brain...without looking I can tell you it's

Bat Out Of Hell
You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth
Heaven Can Wait
All Revved Up With No Place To Go
Two Out Of Three Aint Bad
Paradise By The Dashboard Light
For Crying Out Loud

Easy...awesome....to the point....no filler.....just right.....CLASSIC...

...alot of artists new and old today need to shorten it up more.

Yes, but only with Jim Steinman

Bat III was a fantastic album, what killed it was the first single was that Steinman song that Celine Dion had made popular....not good.
