Camera Obscura are a Scottish pop band formed in 1996. Their first album wasn't released until 2001 though, and they've made 3 more since then. Fronted by lead singer Tracyanne Campbell, her voice spins a web of emotion, which carries the bright and upbeat music along. And the music itself is reminiscent of past times, with deep cellos, tasteful violins, acoustic guitars, softly used drums and occasional brass portraying a distinctly 60's sound.
MP will come in here referincing Melanie Safka no doubt, but in this case he'd be justified to do so, whether the band knows it or not, their music takes a lot of influence from Melanie's, and mixed with their own added flavour the result is an enjoyable experience of melodic pop.
The albums I have are:
Let's Get Out Of This Country

And My Maudlin Career

And some of my favourite songs:
(If you only have time for one, make it this one)
