Mary Millington now that's a name from the 1970s. Mary had a younger sister Doreen Millington they both I believe ran a sex shop in East London or so I was told??.

I'll check out those later albums - 'We'll bring the house down' and 'My oh my' kind of put me off. Dave Hill - maybe under-rated (in the same way that Slade are 'under-rated' cos they were a pop band - and wore dodgy glam gear)?
Mary Millington - was that music....?!
The Smiths crisps offer also included Bye Bye Baby by the Bay City Rollers - my sister chose that one.
Presume there've been plenty of 'my first record' threads....?

When it comes to Slade I always liked Play It Loud from 1970 but the 'Glam image' of the early/mid 1970s was a 'turn off' for me and still is. Slade In Flame the record/cd and movie has some good songs on it and a friend and myself went and saw the film when it was on release in the west end of London at the end of 1974. Personally I like the early 1980s version of Slade.

As for Mary Millington she worked in the UK 'sex industry' during the 1970s as a 'porn actress' and also running a couple of sex shops around the greater London area with her younger sister Doreen Millington. According to Wikipedia Mary committed suicide back in 1979 age 33.

Ok i admit it!!..lol..it was a rude flexi disc from Playbirds porno mag...this 70's punk outfit did a tribute to Mary's sad life.

Mary Millington was a mainstay of Mayfair magazine I think - back in the days when porn mags could be found in the woods!!
As for films on release - remember seeing The Wall in the cinema where it was premiered in London (Leicester Square?) - the sound system was excellent (ovo!) - dossed around in London (inc. Soho area - seedy by then) before going hitching in France (bought first tin of tobacco for rollies).

Regarding the glam turn off - quite a few bands (particularly of that era) are better listened to than watched! Obviously, there's some bands where neither is better!

I don't know if a band called Mott The Hoople has been already mentioned here earlier, but I absolutely love this song (especially this particular performance of it):

Regarding The Sweet in particular I read a article in Classic Rock magazine about 10 years ago that the band didn't have a large female following back in the early 1970s 'glam era' because apparently many young women at that time where 'confused about the way they looked' with clean washed long hair and face make-up like women along with Steve Priest the bass player who sometimes wore 'hot pants' and high heels on stage ha ha ha.... I'm not knocking the Sweet cos I was a teenager at the time and the way they looked didn't bother me and I have many Sweet cds but a few days ago I bought a new Sweet x3 cd compilation cd and when I mentioned it to my wife who was a teenager in the early 1970s herself she told me that she never liked that group they all looked weird?.
