Plenty of contenders but I couldn't say anyone is better. No rock bassists are better. There's plenty of great rock bassists but the best bass players are jazz/fusion guys.

I have Stanley Clark's "School Days" He's impressive but lets not forget a Jazz Bassist who is known as one of the best in the world.. He is gone now but I could only imagine where he would be today if he was still around..

Jaco in 77 with Weather Report

Jaco suffered from manic depression.. But his genius on Bass made him a legend..
