Hi all,

I'm a life long album rock enthusiast, spent many years in the post production muzak biz, also did rock pirate radio in London since the 60's. Just wondering if there are any fellow rockers, who are also into radio on here?

Bear.

It's been ages since I listened to radio Bear...I don't really listen to much anymore at all.

Maybe we do have some other members that still do.

One thing is certain, the FM stations I grew up with put the present cookie cutter corporate stations to shame...if they were still around I would tune in to my favorite DJ's and check out what music they were playing.

Despite all that Welcome to the forum.

Thanx Grendel,

I see you found a lovely foto of me.....

We've never had rock music stations here, a couple of hours now and again if we were lucky, so I had to do it myself. In more recent years we've got a national rock station on digital radio, but it tends to be repetitive, loadsa stuff they don't play, and Phil Collins era Genesis is played a fair bit; 'land of confusion' now playing, yuk. A dj described Genesis earler, saying 'they came out of obscurity to the millions'. I wouldn't describe Genesis as obscure in the Gabriel era, would you?

^^No and we have the same problem here. The days of renegade DJ's with their own musical choices and freedom to play whatever they want are long gone...with the one exception of the local University FM station, if you volunteered to DJ then you could play whatever you want. That is about it for off the grid music on radio here these days.

To answer your question Bear I haven't bothered with Radio in ages but I have limitless resources for finding new music anyway and I'm always finding new music. If you are new to music forums this place will knock out your need for any radio and give you more good music to listen to from Classical down to a song that just came out yesterday! Enjoy yourself and welcome! :cheers2

Hi S&S,

Thanx, always good to discover new classic rock which may have gone underneath my radar in the past, but there's also good new stuff too. I suppose what I like about radio as opposed to lobbing an LP or CD on, is that with radio, you never know what's coming next, well, it should be a nice surprise, though I guess we're all often dismally dismayed too. :mad

Hi!

I worked as a satellite engineer at a local AM Radio station in the late 80's/early 90's. My job was to announce weather updates twice an hour on the air, run the board, transfer reel to reel commercials to carts (carts look like 8 tracks), & play the commercials. The station had a satellite feed coming in from another state so there were no live DJ's. It was a great easy job & they only had one person in the station at a time so I'd be alone for my shift. The station was a "music of your life" station playing easy listening stuff from the 30's - 70's. What was great was that record companies still shipped promo records to the station & we'd get to keep them. I even got Judas Priest albums that were sent there & that wasn't even the stations format! It was a riot working there but after 3 years they bought an automation machine which replaced our jobs
