Alice Cooper might finally be ready to get around to that classic-rock covers album he first mentioned last summer. Bob Ezrin has already been tabbed to produce the project, with sessions set to commence after Cooper’s upcoming tour with Marilyn Manson.

“I just kind of said, ‘We’ve never done a covers album, let’s think about that,’” Cooper tells Rolling Stone. “So Ezrin and I are kind of bouncing it around right now.”

Cooper said the album, as yet unnamed, would likely feature some of the songs he’s already reinterpreting on stage, which include the Doors‘ ‘Break On Through,’ the Beatles‘ ‘Revolution,’ the Who‘s ‘My Generation’ and Jimi Hendrix‘s ‘Foxey Lady.’ He also mentioned a Harry Nilsson track as a possibility.

“Harry Nilsson, there’s a lot of good stuff there that could be rocked out,” Cooper added. “I think of songs as being clay. Take a song like ‘Jump Into the Fire’ and take that to a harder level, and that’ll work.”

Cooper has included the odd cover song in the past, both on studio albums and in concert. Hendrix’s ‘Fire’ can be found on 2002′s ‘Hell Is,’ while the Beatles’ ‘Because’ and Spirit’s ‘I Got a Line on You’ both appeared on the 1999 ‘Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper’ box set. He also previously covered ‘My Generation’ on the 2000 concert disc ‘Brutally Live.’

Cooper’s most recent studio effort was 2011′s sequel ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare.’ He says he expects this new project to arrive some time in 2014.

His covers were good live, but I don't think he should bother with a whole album full. Who wants to pay to see Alice Cooper if the concerts are full of covers to promote the album?

It would only be cool if he did novelty scary tunes....Monster Mash...Little Red Riding Hood (I could see him doing that).... Frankenstein by the New York Dolls...stuff like that.

Hated his last album but a covers album I would be open to hearing.

Knowing Alice it will be fun and entertaining, and relevant to the rock era (unlike all the Rod Stewart 'cover' projects, that are relevant only to my grandmother)
