If we are looking at entire careers, then I have to give it to Aerosmith because let's face it, Lynyrd Skynyrd died in October 1977. What we have left is kinda/sorta a tribute band that does a fine job, but it's not the same and the albums they've released since that fateful day haven't been even close to those first 5 albums.
But, if we are to compare similar time periods, say, 1973-1977, then it gets interesting. Each band put out 5 albums in nearly the same time period (LS from Aug '73 to Oct '77 and Aerosmith from Jan '73 to Dec '77).
Skynyrd:
Pronounced
Second Helping
Nothing Fancy
Gimme Back My Bullets
Street Survivors
Aerosmith:
S/T
Get Your Wings
Toys in the Attic
Rocks
Draw the Line
Two great sets of 5 albums for each band. Aerosmith had 8 singles that made it into the Top100 during that 5 year stretch, Skynyrd had 6 (not that charts are the tell-all).
I dunno, hard to vote for one over the other.
