Yeah, it's very tough to tell with bands that new, even with established bands you never know what the future holds. I reckon another power trio, Tame Impala have their goods together so far, they could go the distance, same for a host of new Aussie bands like The Temper Trap, Hungry Kids Of Hungary and Washington. We shall wait and see though! :grinthumb

I have no candidates I can think of that meet Slip'nns requirements...Muse has been around longer than 3 years.

I will be curious to see what our younger music experts can come up with.

As a younger music listener I don't care about longevity! If I like a group and they end that's as much music as they weren't to make rather than staying together beyond what their desire is and not making authentic music. If you like the songwriters in your group you'll follow whatever they branch into period even if it veers off from what the band was. I bought most everything Billy, James and Chamberlain did after the original Pumpkins and it's all got quality stuff. All legacy is status for music fans which anyone listening just as a fan of music wouldn't worry about! :grinthumb

I honestly don't think any group meeting those standards will be around in 30 years. There's always bands who are losing and gaining members and certain music goes out of style. I just don't see a band of today being around in 30 years without making at least some changes.

True enough, however the OP does ask an interesting question, and if nothing else it highlights how difficult it is for any band to last more than a handful of years, and makes Rush and ZZ Top's longevity even more amazing.

I do think it would have been easier if it were the last 10 years instead of 3, that would place a lot of quality bands in the picture for speculation.

I got this idea for this thread from watching Sinbad one night.. He ask the same question of the younger people in his audience and they would come back with Kayne and Beyonce and other pop stars..
I just thought it would be something interesting since I know no one can see the future, but it goes to show you how fast the music industry changes from what it used to be like.
Bands from my generation are still around minus a few who passed on. They have had to compete in sales with the hoards of come and go groups..IMO.. it is because of poor industry choices who look for new musicians but stay in the safe zone with what is popular for the younger generation...

Kanye and Beyonce are solo artists, so that makes sticking it out easier than in any band setting.

I have no problem with your dividing line at 3 years, it just takes all the bands that I know out of the picture...:grinthumb

Here is a new band I like called Taddy Porter that was formed in 2007.I doubt they will be around in 25-30 years but who knows

Lead singer Andy Brewer played college baseball and his dad Mark Brewer is a pitching coach in the Mets farm systerm. His grandfather Jim Brewer pitched in the major leagues for 17 years for the Cubs,Dodgers and Angels.
