Eire Apparent - Rock 'N' Roll Band....These were a band from Northern Ireland that were kicking around at the same time as Rory Gallagher's band Taste...They only made one album but they struck lucky with Jimi Hendrix producing the album and playing on it too...Eire Apparent helped launch the career of Henry McCullough..but this is more late 60's, by 1970 the band were no more.

Toad, with the title track of their 1972 album 'Tomorrow Blue'..Some great guitar here from those 70s Swiss heavy blues rockers.

Ultra - band formed in San Antonio,Texas back in 1974, believe they disbanded about 4 years later...I know little about them but i discovered some of their music on you tube quite a few years ago...This rocks!..its Southern Rock meets boogie rock meets hard rock meets metal.

I read a comment a year or two ago from Ritchie Blackmore former Deep Purple founding member and guitarist with DP & Rainbow saying that he basically didn't see what was so special about SRV or words to that effect although Ritchie may have said what he said when SRV first became known to wider blues & rock audiences back in 1983?.

Blues rock?? There are a few songs that have lead guitar with a rock feel but most of it is mediocre psych pop rock.
I almost bought an original on vinyl a few years back at my fiends record shop but thought he was asking a bit too much for it.

I would not have given this comment by the Ever-Arrogant Mr. Blackmore had he made it about EC, because I've never understood the huge hype surrounding said 'God'. Of course, doing so would have been blasphemy, especially with his British fan base. Who knows, maybe Ritchie's hearing loss attributed to his making this statement. In any case, (IMO) SRV was as close to a real Guitar God of any guitarist who has ever lived. And while I don't believe Ritchie has ever had jealous bone in his body, he certainly is an opinionated snob when it comes to guitar players.

I never heard much if anything from Blackmore in past years or even decades but in more recent months maybe in the last year or two I have read a number of remarks coming from 'the man in black' the latest one that I read (and saw on YOUtube) was Ritchie talking about all the guy's that he really liked after being asked a question by a female fan asking "who were the people that he loved?". Ritchie then apparently after giving the question some serious thought rattled off some names such as-

1.Jon Lord
2.Ronnie James Dio
3.David Coverdale
4.Cozy Powell
5.Ian Gillan
6.Tommy Bolin the US guitarist in Deep Purple Mk IV during 1975/76

and maybe another one or two names that I have forgotten?.
