10 Most Underrated/ 5 Most Overrated Songs By Your Favorite Artist or Band

PERFECT way of summing up what I feel... On topic here's my list but I tweaked the parameters a bit:

Everyone I know swears by this song, casual fans and Led Heads alike!

And I think Stairway falls into that "overplayed on the radio but still a great song" category. It's a beautifully-written and constructed song but the overkill on the radio ruins it, and as Plant said it sort of lost its meaning and sentimental value over the years what with it coming on the radio every 2.5 minutes. Totally agree with Rock and Roll and add Heartbreaker to that same list. I'll have to think about my list and get back atcha.

Agreed, ILJP! I think there's a difference between a song that is overplayed and a song that is overrated.

For example Free Fallin' is Petty's most overplayed song. I've heard it enough times that I don't care if I never hear it again, especially live. If I was Petty I'd never perform it again. But I do think it's one of his best songs, just perfect and succinct and creative lyrics, it's just overplayed. Whereas something like The Waiting is good but... it's never been among his best, even the first time you hear it IMHO. A classic song but doesn't bring as much to the table as many of his others do.

Interesting idea. I am having a hard time coming up with a full list for 'overrated' for my favorite band. Underrated? I could make a long list. To be honest, I love every single song on both of my lists, including the 'overrated' ones, so I am certainly not saying I don't like anything here.

Ask me again in a year and I'm sure some of my "underrated" ones will either be in a different order or I'll replace some with others I didn't think of when doing this list.

Levee... All of the band's most primal qualities is illustrated in that song. Page's incessant slide riffs, Plant's bluesy tone and harmonica, Jones rock steady bass and of course, THAT monstrous Bonham drum sound. Also, the last part I read is a heavily sampled bit.

On Stairway, I agree with your sentiments. For the record, I'm not sick of it but then again I don't listen to it often so there's the rub. My opinion of how some of their tracks are unappreciated is there is more to the group than recycled riffs and the cliche hard rock lyrics which my choices I feel cite. I didn't list Kashmir in either category because personally I don't believe it fits.

I thought you'd think my choices were different. As for Whole Lotta Love, if it weren't for the break in the song with the moans and theremin, it probably wouldn't be anywhere near my overrated list. All My Love never did anything for me either, but that may be because I'm just not a fan of ITTOD altogether. It's a touching song but I've never understood all the praise of it.
