    Black Sabbath (Official Thread)

A lot of these interviews get copied and pasted into numerous documentaries or are used to break up live sets, to stretch the material to a decent length. Certain music film production companies seem to thrive on putting out 'new' products which are just rehashes of material that's been released...

    Dire Straits (Official Thread)

Broadly speaking, I liked each Dire Straits album less than the preceding one - there's little that I dislike on "Dire Straits" and "Communique", a couple of duffers on "Makin' Movies", side 2 of "Love Over Gold" pales into insignificance compared to side 1. "Brothers In Arms" I like very little...

Mott the Hoople: The Unsung Champions of the 1970's

And as of today, it isn't. Marillion have announced that they have withdrawn from the support slot for Mott The Hoople, due to being misled by the promoters. Damn it! That would have been a great double header. I was really looking forward to that.

    The 1975

Point of trivia - Matthew Healy is the eldest son of actor Tim Healy (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet/Benidorm) and actress/presenter Denise Welch (Coronation Street/Waterloo Road etc.).

Ian Gillan doesn't want to reconnect with Ritchie Blackmore

The album was enough to convince me (a seasoned Purple fan of two decades - at that time) that the band weren't worth going to see on that tour. It's a stinker of an album - I'd rather listen to Slaves and Masters!

Three Michael Jackson Duets With Freddie Mercury Set for Release

Appalling, is there nothing that May and Taylor will not do to wring some more cash out Queen fans?

    Electric Light Orchestra (Official Thread)

I loathed it at the time, especially "Diary of Horace Wimp" and "Don't Bring Me Down"! "Confusion" and "Last Train To London" were tolerable. Time does mellow you though - I heard DBMD in the local Co-op a couple of weeks ago and nearly started singing along to it. I still feel that ELO peaked...

    Deep Purple (Official Thread)

I still haven't changed my opinion of it - I keep coming back to it and have no hint of growing tired of it. It's a really fresh album and well mixed. One of my favourite tracks is "It'll Be Me", which I often play standalone, when I don't have time to listen to the whole album. I always loved...

Mott the Hoople: The Unsung Champions of the 1970's

Support band for the o2 Arena gig in London in November is no less than Marillion!

    Roy Harper (Official Thread)

Agreed. I'd love to see him live again but he doesn't do much these days. One of my fondest memories was back in (I think) '83 at Leicester Priory Folk Club, a really intimate little venue - certainly the smallest that I ever saw him in.

    Deep Purple (Official Thread)

For anyone in the UK, there was a 30-minute tribute programme to Jon Lord, presented by Rick Wakeman and on BBC East Midlands in the regional spot at 23:25 on Sunday 14th (everywhere else got "Live At The Apollo"!). It's available for the next week on iPlayer - "Jon Lord: It's All Music".

    Steve Hackett (Official Thread)

Ditto here. He played Friars, Aylesbury a couple of months ago, with Nik Kershaw, John Wetton and Steve Rothery guesting, recreating their contributions to the recent "Genesis Revisited 2" album. A cracking night. Also a big fan of "Spectral Mornings" - the title track's probably my favourite...

    Roy Harper (Official Thread)

Not dismissing "Cricketer" (or "HQ") - I just get a bit fed up with hearing it. My personal preference is the "Bullinamingvase" album and particularly "One Of Those Days In England" (the full version). Then of course there is "that" song that caused all the controversy and legal issues...

    Widowmaker (Official Thread)

Thanks for reminding me. I bought the first album when it came out. I must trawl it out of my vinyl collection some time and have another listen to it, it must be over 20 years since it last saw the light of day!

Paul McCartney & Wings on TV

For me, this catches McCartney at his peak, in my opinion. My only complaint was the amount of common content that appeared in both "Rockshow" and "Wings Over The World" - even down to the credits. Apart from that, it was a great couple of hours!

    R.I.P. Bernie Nolan

Totally agree with Big Ears - and she was also brilliant prior to The Bill, in Brookside. Of all the sisters, she seemed the most natural in the spotlight. After her diagnosis she threw herself, as much as her condition would allow, into supporting the charities and raising awareness of them...

    Acoustic songs of the 70's

Probably not a name that you'd expect to find on here but I still adore Kiki Dee's 1973 single "Loving And Free". It was the lead track on an EP, which my sister had bought. "Amoureuse" gained all the airplay but I'll still take "Loving And Free" any day over it. LOVING AND FREE - KIKI DEE -...

    Heart (Official Thread)

I'm another old fart that prefers the early quintet of albums! I first saw them in '82, supporting Queen on their UK tour. The last time was '88, on the "Bad Animals" tour - when I thought that they were dreadful.

    Argent (Official Thread)

Argent, Ballard, Henrit & Rodford reunited for (they say) one last time on Sunday night in Aylesbury to headline a benefit show for the 17-year old son of a local musician, who broke his neck 18 months ago in a trampolining accident. They only played a short set, which included "It's Only...

    Deep Purple (Official Thread)

I really like this album. It has the feel of a more classic Purple album than the last few and Steve's guitar sound sounds so much better - warmer - than it has to date. Also, as Nololob says, the keyboards are more dominant again. I'd also add that there is more instrumental work across the...

Mott the Hoople: The Unsung Champions of the 1970's

Yes, I have an original paperback imprint from 1974 (which I bought at the time). I had to buy a new copy a few years ago because the pages were falling out of the original! Curiously, I have lived in Aylesbury for the past 25 years and, when I came to reread it some years ago, I discovered...

Mott the Hoople: The Unsung Champions of the 1970's

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't reappeared, given that tickets for a 2013 Mott The Hoople gig at the o2 in London (18th November) go on sale on Friday!

    Favourite Yes Personnel Solo Album

Personally I'd go for Jon Anderson's "Song of Seven" over all of those - so 'Other' for me. Not to mention the Jon & Vangelis albums.

    Status Quo (Official Thread)

Sorry - was working off the top of my head in the early hours! Yes it was 25th June '79. I remember my g/f getting a great photograph of Nuff, just as the girl in front flung up her Quo scarf and circled him in the pic. I 'sort of' follow the current Quo. I think that "Quid Pro Quo" was the...
