Thanks for reminding me. I bought the first album when it came out. I must trawl it out of my vinyl collection some time and have another listen to it, it must be over 20 years since it last saw the light of day!

From what I can make out Steve Ellis recorded 2 ELLIS albums ...in 1972 and 1973 prior to WIDOWMAKER. His vocal style at times close to Roger Daltrey IMO.I guess these albums are hard to get hold of....

I was lucky enough to pick up the two Widowmaker albums in the cutout bins a long time ago.

I've never heard of Love Affair or the solo Ellis stuff...thanks for the links!

LOVE AFFAIR were massive in the UK in the 1960s...having hits with "Everlasting love" "Rainbow valley" etc......[.a bit before my time :heheh:]
Vocalist Steve Ellis will always be remembered for these 60s " classics" when he was a lot younger. In more recent years he has gone back to his roots revamping LOVE AFFAIR for European tv shows and lately been singing for NEW AMEN CORNER....and also recording a new solo album

I still like to think Steve Ellis as a great underated 70s rock singer :grinthumb

My memories of Widowmaker are of seeing them live, as a support band to The Who on their 1976 "Who put the Boot In" tour of football stadiums in the UK.

The line-up in order of appearance was

Widowmaker
Streetwalkers
Graham Parker & The Rumour
Little Feat
Sensational Alex harvey Band
The Who

Tickets were 4 pounds sterling!

I remember being thrilled at seeing who I knew as Ariel Bender from Mott strutting his stuff onstage.
They played a rocking set which seemed to go down pretty well, particularly for that tricky opening act slot.

I felt they'd have a big career in front of them, but seems they fell foul of the dreaded "musical differences".

Thank you, thread, for making me feel old!
