I think for Yes you mean The Yes Album. The one simply titled Yes was their debut and most people seem to think their first two were rather weak (I don't share that view though and particularly like T&AW which I feel is very underrated.).

Not quite. It was actually Peter Gabriel who decided against hiring them and not the band themselves. Also, the first iteration of the band was from 73-79.
The Yes Album was released in 1971. No, it's not the ultimate prog album or even Yes album but it's very good and one of their top five imo. It's actually the very first one I was exposed to since my dad had it.

Very sad news. I've been a big Rush fan for a long time(since the 80's). However, I only saw them four times. Anyway, this is a big blow to Rush fans and the drumming(and rock music)community. RIP the professor(Pratt).

Sad news. I was playing their first two albums in my car recently(in honor of Ric). I have heartbeat City somewhere too but can't find it. Like others I had no idea he was 75. RIP Ric.
I like them all. I consider the metal stuff to be more a part of metal than prog though. It's called progressive metal not metal progressive. I've had arguments with people about this though so obviously not everyone sees it that way.
