well, i certainly don't mean to cause any undue ill effects because of my pulsating avatar, such effects including but not being limited to epileptic seizures, retinal damage*, vertigo, cookie-tossing, general pissed-offedness, or anything else that may lead to lawsuits against my personage. lord knows i'd be heart-broken if the courts took away my superball collection.
that being said, distraction really is in the eye of the beholder, aint it? i've had this avatar pulsating on many a board before now. only on the two CRFs has it been "still" so to speak. typically, it's my screwy writing style that sticks a bee up everybody's bloomers and triples online orders for visine™. also typically, if folk don't wanna deal with me, they do what anybody in the free e-world would do, and that is ignore my existence entirely. being the kinda person i am, i take that as a compliment.
mind ya, there are all sorts of things *i* find distracting that have zippo to do with avatars. giant sig pics... weird fonts... font changes inside of a post... non-standard citing styles... emoticon addiction... day-glo alien crustaceans snapping at my toes when i'm trying to type... et alia. while i find the above elements distracting, i would never dream of trying to get the poobahs-that-be to standardize post rules to accommodate my personal tastes. that's just fish-slappingly silly. if i dig the writer enough, i'm willing to plow through the distraction to get my candy. if i don't, i'm the fastest scroller in the south, baybee.

vbulletin = the best messageboard out there, bar none. I have set up and used a number of other options out there, from free messageboard software to licensed software such as VB and this is truly the best. The options are incredible and the number of addons make it so flexible. So, anyone that isn't happy with what's available should go visit some flat phpbb site with admins that don't know wtf they are doing and see the difference. Sorry, don't mean to rant.

Hey guys, this isn't a huge deal but the description "If the vocalist growls, squeals,or screams, then it belongs in this forum!' isn't entirely correct for the Death/Doom/Black/Gothic Metal section.
Just don't want people who might not be familiar with the genres to assume that is what it is all about, thus, not giving any bands a chance.
Pretty much the only screams/growls you will heard are from black metal and death metal, though not all bands consist of it. Perhaps it doesn't need a description? Not sure what you guys want to do with it, just putting it out there that it isn't an accurate description of the genres. Maybe a more general description might be better.

I have made a couple changes to the forum today.
1. The Skin now fits the entire screen. If you don't like this change, please don't post it here, I have a poll for your opinions in the "feedback" forum.
2. We have a new sub-forum. Book of Lists. This forum is for all those neat "list" threads, and "top 10" threads. This will keep those threads from getting lost in the general music discussions.
