Rory Gallagher vs Joe Bonamassa

Joe's probably a bit better technically...maybe!
Rory I think was a better frontman. Not that I've seen either live in person, but have watched plenty of live gigs from both. Rory seems to connect/have connected more with his audiences.


Can you decide between these two?

Easily Rory, Bonamassa is obviously an exceptional player but his playing style is just too clean and polished sounding , Imo. His tone is never really gritty like old blues / blues rock. It's sort of tided up and made more presentable for the mass market palate.

A very good point, which I can't argue with, except to say that Joe uses horn sections a lot which I guess need to be carefully choreographed, and so may damp his ability to use spontaneity. Although I prefer the stuff Joe does without the horns. Certainly live he seems far too polished, and I do find his live gigs a bit boring for that.

I'm going with Bonamassa. Joe can play ANY style, including that raw grit Vader talks about. His equipment is impressive, too. Joe also has a good vocal sound to go with his guitar prowess. He's also a master on the acoustic. A good example is "Woke Up Dreaming, Live"...... Phenomenal!!!


Wanna talk solos.....Mountain Time is the best you could hope to ever hear.
