Right now, I have list of 50 - 2017 releases that I either love, like a lot, think are pretty good or am not too found of...
I'm working at narrowing this list down to my top 20 or 25.
I will try to rank the ones that make the cut in order.
As of right now I am waiting for the new Morbid Angel to come out...by then I should a better idea about what my final list will look like.

For now I am going to do my " Hard Rock List For 2017"
Since its much shorter and easier to handle:

HARD ROCK 2017;

1. DEEP PURPLE ~ INFINITE
Really great and adventurous outing. Took me by surprise because I think they topped their last album which was also great. If they do retire now ( as rumored ) they go out on a very strong note.

2. BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION ~ BCCIV.
Glenn Hughes & Joe Boss make up and make beautiful, hard rocking, energetic magic togather, again !! Who but the amazing Glenn Hughes sings like this at 70 some years of age...super human.

3. ALICE COOPER ~ PARANORMAL.
The Coop makes his best album since Brutal Planet.
Like this one better than Along Came A Spider
& Dragon Town ( both of which I really enjoy.) Cooper has been hit and miss since Goes To Hell, IMO. While I'm not a fan of his poppy albums or a good number of his later albums...this is a quality Alice Cooper effort. He captures a good bit of his old dark charm on Paranormal while managing to not repeat himself.

4. CHELSEA WOLFE ~ HISS SPUN .
Chelsea's music is a bit hard to describe to the uninitiated. It's not Doom but it is Doomy. It's not Industrial but it does bare resemblance to Industrial at times. It's also not Dark Folk ...but maybe, all the above mixed togather by Chelsea to make none of above, but something unique called Chelsea Wolfe...another great album by the High Priestess of Darkwave.

5. DOOM SIDE OF THE MOON ~ DSOTM .
The Sword basically covering the Pink Floyd classic in it's entirety. it's probably more Stoner Side than Doom but it's pretty interesting, though it cannot compete with the original. But then, it isn't meant to.

Well, I've posted my list of 2017 releases elsewhere, but my favourite for the year is BCCIV. Not a track by them I haven't liked yet.

Paranormal is ok, but I like Brutal Planet better, and also Dirty Diamonds from the more recent stuff.

Think I'll have to check that Deep Purple one out.

I like Brutal Planet better as well. I said "since" meaning that all the albums that followed. Can't say I'm much impressed with Dirty Diamonds though. OK , at best IMO.

To start off with a few favourites.

1. Ne Obliviscaris - Urn is my number 1 album of the year which is likely to remain the case even this stage. Such excellently executed progressive metal blended with black metal heaviness. The violins give more emotional atmosphere.

2. Kreator - Gods of Violence. Man I didn't think a new release could top Phantom Antichrist but for me this one delivers more memorable melodies and thrash riffs that make this my new favourite Kreator record.

3. Cannibal Corpse - Red Before Black is another solid release. Nothing too groundbreaking but just reliable Death Metal from these legends. It does have some good bass work and slower material.

4. August Burns Red - Phantom Anthem is likely my favourite metalcore album this year. Heavy with some good melodies.

5. Caligula's Horse In Contact is one of the best progressive albums this year from Australia.

Love the Argus album...made my list. I briefly heard Satan's Hollow but didnt give It much attention , TBH.
Probably because I was expecting to be. really blown away due to all the hype.
Wasn't and it lost my interest. Ill give it another shot soon.

Satan's Hollow was the best of the retro heavy metal/doom releases I've heard this year. There was a hell of alot released this year. I wasn't blown away either. The only album I was blown away with this year was From Silence to Somewhere by Wobbler.

I'll definitely listen to the new DP. I haven't listened to anything from them since 'Perfect Strangers'.

Really ? You should at least give The Battle Rages On, Now What? & infinite a listen. All are more or less in the same vein as Classic MK II releases.
