I like it when GFRR's legacy is being preserved.
Sadly they are a band who's greatness did not get passed on to later generations.
They sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles.

By 1971, Grand Funk equalled the Beatles' Shea Stadium attendance record but sold out the venue in just 72 hours whereas the Beatles concert took a couple of weeks to sell out.

In 1970 a guy from Flint moved up to my home town in Upper Michigan. He brought along with him a host of Flint and Detroit area music the Red Grand Funk album being one of them. I was floored by this album. I still play it to this day.

I had a friend who used to live around the corner from me as a teen who I spent a lot of time with..we shared a common interest in heavy rock like Deep Purple , Black Sabbath, Hendrix , Van Halen, Southren Rock and prog like Yes ( he didnt get Into Metal until later ) and shall I say the "life style" but we never seemed to ever listen to GFR at his house when hanging out even though he would from time to time tty to turn me on to them...but only verbally. I was resistant. .. Im Your Captain & Closer To Home were radio staples and I was not really hooked ( uunderstatement ).

It wasn't until we were in our early 30's and I went to visit him that he broke out with Survival and followed it with On Time while we were out in his garage having few cold ones one hot summer night. And as they say the rest is history.

I have slowly but surely collected every studio album from The Red Album to Shinin' On & the awesome Live Album on Vinyl . I have to say these guys are in my top 5 American hard rock bands from the 70s era along side greats like BOC , Aerosmith and Ted Nugent etc.

I missed out for a very long time but gotta say that I really love these ******* now a days.
