Americana Music

Anyone else interested in a section for Americana music? I seem to gravitate towards this stuff the older I get. There is some good music for this genre.

Sounds good.
The only issue is that the term Americana is already getting pretty polluted.
It seems to be a repository for anything "countryish" that doesn't fit into what constitutes popular country music these days.
But I guess it's good to differentiate.
What else would you call Jason Isbell?
Unless we just say it's good music.
I'm for it. Americana section.
Subsection for Bluegrass would be nice.
Big Steel Drivers fan. And stuff like Railroad Earth.
Infamous Stringdusters always rip it up live.

I always figure Americana is a grey area somewhere between country, rock and bluegrass.

I've been thinking about expanding our country section to include Americana and perhaps move it to the front of the board. Americana has become such a wide term, but I think merging it with the country section would be the most logical step. I cannot see us opening an entire section for Americana. It's one of my favourite music genres, I'm glad you guys feel the same way, but the fact is that topics about Americana do not create enough activity to justify a section for it.

I see that now. I was hoping there would be a larger audience for it. I'll just start a thread in the country subforum and see what happens. Thanks for considering it tho.

I think it's a great idea!

Americana music really is folk music, though not necessarily acoustic, and while not big enough for it's own section will fit in with country music most of all.

Historical subject matter is important, and so is instrumentation. Not all folk music is Americana. Rockabilly can be too, but not always is.

I think this could be very interesting!
