I looked back on this thread to see what I may have wrote on Motorhead & much to my surprise I only wrote one small post wishing him well & praising Lemmy's Headcat album which I still listen to a lot.

Anyway...in the early 80's a friend picked up the live album which had just came out. I don't remember what I picked up that day but Motorhhead was beginning to pick up momentum in the world of metal which is why my friend picked it up. We went back to his house, slapped it on his turntable, & man did we think it sucked! It just sounded like noise. A couple of years later I picked up a strange compilation record (I can't remember the title) but the only 2 songs I remember on it were Status Quo "Pictures of Matchstick Men" & Motorhead's cover of "Louie Louie". It was that version of Louie Louie that made me a Motorhead fan. I decided to buy a Motorhead record & seen they just released a double compilation album set titled No Remorse so I bought it & loved every track on it. I'm not kidding there is not one bad track on that compilation & not only was that cover of Louie Louie on it but there was a crazy cover of Johnny Kidd's "Please Don't Touch" performed with Girlschool & even a crazier version of Tammy Wynette's "Stand by Your Man" performed with...Wendy O Williams...WOW!!

I was hooked on tunes like Killed By Death, Iron Fist, Snaggletooth, Metropolis, We are the Road Crew, No Class, & of course Ace of Spades which sometime during that time in the mid 1980's MTV picked up the comedy show the Young Ones from England & one of the episodes featured Motorhead performing Ace of Spades & I was blown away. In November of 1986 I got to see Motorhead up close at Buff State College in Buffalo,NY. Opening the show was the Cro-mags & Wendy O Williams. It was a wild show. Motorhead had just released one of my favorite albums..."Orgasmatron". I will say my favorite album by Motorhead is Ace of Spades but I also love Orgasmatron, Iron Fist, 1916, Overkill, the debut especially for the killer version of Train Kept a Rollin'. I was fortunate to see them again in 2003 opening for Dio & Iron Maiden in Cleveland.

That's ( Lemmy Is God ) not meant to be taken literally. .. just something that used to float around in the metal underground ...just kinda a tongue in check play on the Clapton is God thing.

Personally like 1916 but feel there are many Motorhead albums ahead of it.

I see dude than I get it...

After Lemmy Passed away, classic-rock-dot-com posted their list of Motorhead's Top Ten songs and I really only knew a few of them by name. And at that point I'd only bought a handful of Motorhead songs from iTunes that I knew from the radio (Ace of Spades, Deaf Forever, I'm Your Man and Louie, Louie), but I never owned any of their albums and none of my friends did either. So I delved into their voluminous catalogue on iTunes to see if I could find better songs than classic rock dot com's list, and what I came away with blew me away. I quickly realized that not all of their music is balls-to-the-wall, speed-metal set to 4/4 time signatures. But that's what they want you to believe. Well, I looked beyond the long hair and the gravely voice and discovered they had a ton of excellent, melodic hard rock songs. And when I say a ton of songs, I really mean 75 because that's how many I downloaded from iTunes -- to my complete and utter astonishment. Discovering this much great music from a band like Motorhead was as shocking to me as learning that Dale Earnhardt really was a nice guy after he was killed.

To add: out of the 75 Motorhead songs I downloaded from iTunes, it was pretty tough to choose just 15 of them to comprise a "Best Of Motorhead", but here's what I ended up with:

01 - Iron Horse/Born To Lose
02 - Like A Nightmare
03 - America
04 - Don't Let 'Em Grind You Down
05 - Another Perfect Day
06 - Built For Speed
07 - Just 'Cos You Got The Power
08 - The One To Sing The Blues
09 - Bad Religion
10 - I'm Your Man
11 - When The Eagle Screams
12 - Heroes
13 - In The Year Of The Wolf
14 - Living In The Past
15 - Dust and Glass

Sure, I didn't include the classics Deaf Forever and Ace Of Spades, but this is the melodic, groove-y, "metal" that I'm wired for.

Had any of these songs been played on rock radio stations in the 80's I would have looked at Motorhead in a much different light.

Tbh I'm glad to see any list that doesn't pick generic choices like the classic songs for the majority of it. Got some good choices there like The One To Sing The Blues, Born to Lose.
