I had an idea a few months ago to create "new" Styx albums of music, and it really worked out.
I took the three solo albums that Shaw and DeYoung did back in the 1980s took the best songs from each, and a few from James Young s solo albums, unbiasedly sequenced the tracks (alternating), and the songs/albums really do work together. Coincidentally, DeYoung and Shaw's three albums were released/recorded fairly close to each other, so the production styles are very close too.
For how much griping against DeYoung's music and production style, even apart, they were really close. I made a few copies for a couple good friends, and they love them.
Styx – 1984
1. Don’t Wait for Heroes (D.DeYoung)
2. Girls with Guns (T.Shaw)
3. Please (D.DeYoung)
4. Lonely School (T.Shaw)
5. Desert Moon (D.DeYoung)
6. City Slicker (J.Young)
7. Kiss Me Hello (T.Shaw)
8. Suspicious (D.DeYoung)
9. Little Girl World (T.Shaw)
10. Gravity (D.DeYoung)
11. The Race is On (T.Shaw)
Styx – 1986
1. Jealousy (T.Shaw)
2. This Is the Time (D.DeYoung)
3. What If (T.Shaw)
4. Call Me (D.DeYoung)
5. This Is Not a Test (T.Shaw)
6. Something to Remember You By (J.Young)
7. Unanswered Prayers (D.DeYoung)
8. See Me Now (T.Shaw)
9. Black Wall (D.DeYoung)
10. Nature of the Beast (T.Shaw)
11. Southbound Ryan (D.DeYoung)
Styx – 1988
1. Beneath the Moon (D.DeYoung)
2. No Such Thing (T.Shaw)
3. What a Way to Go (D.DeYoung)
4. Dangerous Game (T.Shaw)
5. Boomchild (D.DeYoung)
6. Waiting (J.Young)
7. The Weight of the World (T.Shaw)
8. Who Shot Daddy (D.DeYoung)
9. Ambition (T.Shaw)
10. Outside Looking in Again (D.DeYoung)
11. Are You Ready For Me (T.Shaw)
*This album has a nice theme running through it, of ambition, the loss of success, and trying to recapture it.
