It hit me tonight that the Black Crowes are classic rock. Because a classic rock station I was listening to played them and said they were Heh. 1990...Black Crowes...

For a moment I wondered if it could be true and I didn't have a solid argument against so I went with it. Then I dug out my Present: $hake your Money Maker tape and proceeded to rock.

While I still don't want to argue against them being classic rock I will insist the Black Crowes evolved the genre.

Lookit me, new guy, starting sh*t.

Welcome to the club Wisertime. I'm not sure I would call The Black Crowes "classic rock" much like I wouldn't call SRV classic rock either. I'm not huge on genre classifications and labels because I feel they marginalize good music sometimes.

We welcome healthy debate here, as long as it is civil. :grinthumb

Hope to see more input from ya!

Thanks for the welcome.

Speaking of classic rock, I think I will poke around the forum and see how it defines it. An argument floating around my head says classic rock ended in 1985 and then there's that whole the Clash is classic rock. And what about classic rock artists that have kept putting out music during the past couple decades? Are they musically in a new genre now?

Is Eric Clapton classic rock? Is Cream? Is Black Sabbath's '13' a classic rock album?

Is grunge a sub-genre of Classic Rock? Is Blues/Rock? This requires further investigation and clarification.

EDIT: I don't like how Classic Rock is defined at Wikipedia; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_rock
Radio friendly? Pffft...

I don't think classic rock has an expiry date. Just like you get modern classical music, you get modern classic rock. That doesn't mean that every new rock band is classic either:)
Anyway, Welcome. :D
