Here's hoping. That "Gimme something good" song is a little boring though.

Also, I know it's a tired comparison, but I could just imagine Bryan Adams singing that (and it would be one of his less exciting boring songs too).

Are you a fan of Ryan Adams in general Luderei! :)

Oh yes, his music anyway. Especially his 2005 album, with "Easy Plateau", "Let it ride", "Dance all night"...

Although I do find he tends to re-use the same songwriting tricks over and over again, essentially rewriting his own songs. With this song here, when the bridge comes after one minute, the chord and melody sounds just like an older Adams song (although I can't exactly say which one).

Cool! Good songs you listed! :grinthumb I don't disagree on one hand though he has genre hopped enough times (folk, rock, country, punk) and released so much material that I see a little differently on the other hand. He does imitate some familiar cords so I know what you are saying! The "Gimme Something Good" tracvk seems to be structured after a Tom Petty style imo! :grinthumb

When I have a chance I'll put a couple of songs side by side to illustrate what I mean. Although it's not fair cause this can be said about any prolific songwriter.

John Mellencamp said that Bob Dylan once told him that every songwriter only has 6 songs in him. He didn't believe it at first but then he started analysing his own songs and realized how limited his range was .

I find that number strangely specific but if Dylan says that every songwriter has only 6 songs in him, than that's what it is. (or 3 in Mellencamp's case)

I think you make a fair case! :grinthumb I'm just glad to have another fan of him here regardless! :heheh:

Definitely curious about the new album. The reviews I've read have all been very positive. I generally need to catch up on him. Only own ""Jacksonville City Nights" and "Easy Tiger" so far.

Thanks to this thread I have been listening to a lot of his stuff on youtube. I must now buy an album. I like his cover of the Oasis song Wonderwall too.

So this isn't brand new in general but it may be for some. Ryan Adams covered all of Taylor Swifts 1989 album in a very sincere manner. He says he wrote it in the style of The Smiths but after a listen, which I just officially did for the first time you can hear a lot of Springsteen. He also mentions that it was his go to album for feeling better after his divorce from Mandy mnoore. To be fair, I've never listened to the whole Taylor Swift album but I think the singles are inoffensive and well written for the genre. "Shake It off" was the most derivative, unoriginal one but Ryan Adams cover of that is one of my favs. The comparison to turning it into a style similar to "I'm On Fire" has been put out there and it fits. Anyway, it's a pretty cool oddity that has some solid music from a great artist! :grinthumb

Well, let's get a little secret out of the way first.... I like the originals by Taylor Swift! Yes! I like Taylor Swift. :blush2:

When I first heard about Ryan's cover album, I honestly was shaking' my head and put it in the back of my mind to forget about it, all that, despite being a fan of him. Well, I decided to at least check the videos you've posted and I have to admit, I really like them. I guess I'll get a copy of it, but one question: is this only a digital release?
