Eh, I'm neutral on this. I don't think Frampton has any right to tell the fan not to film it on his phone. If the guy had an actual camera and was filming, that'd be bootlegging and Peter'd have every right to intervene. But recording on a phone is like asking a three year old to paint the Mona Lisa -- it's of such shitty quality it's just a personal memento and cannot be considered legitimate bootlegging. Yes this stuff might end up on Youtube but nobody is selling phone footage. So it's not really Peter's jurisdiction as far as I'm concerned.

Me, I personally hate that people film shows on their phones because it seems to have made actual, legitimate concert recording less ubiquitous. But I'll be damned if I'm going to tell someone how to enjoy their concert. That's plain fascism, let people enjoy themselves at the show they paid for.

The fan was so clueless, he gave Peter the phone when asked to see what he was recording.

Haha! Yeah that is pretty darn dumb.

Is someone in the audience holding their phone up recording really having an effect on the artists ability to perform, no. People want to record everything on their phones these days, its the world we live in. I think he's maybe being a little precious about it.

I'm always way to busy enjoying myself to consider getting my phone out. If people around me are insistent on holding their phones in the air I purposely sing very loudly and very out of tune. I'm sure they love that when they get home and are showing footage to their friends and all they hear is me :D

Its about consideration. I am fine with people filming but do it where it isn't blocking others view. That's not fascist that is just common sense. Film it for a few seconds at least then put it away. If their enjoying the concert is interfering with someone elses then that's just not cool.

I agree with you in principle but I have a hard time imagining situations where someone recording with their phone is a legitimate problem.

If you're holding it in someone's face, then yes, I agree completely -- that's wrong. But people have their hands in the air for 3/4ths of a concert anyway so I'd think the vast majority of phone-recording situations would be no different from that.

FWIW I didn't watch the actual video of Frampton, if the guy was seriously being a dick then I concede in that case.

Guess it comes down to experiences. At a lot of shows I have been to too many people held phones up long term and I found it pretty irritating. Thing that annoys me mostly is when its taller people up front doing it. They easily could get a good shot further back.

@ Sunny....its great fun, if someone is annoying you with their arms up filming you go away with a wonderful smugness that you ruined their video without having to be confrontational

Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant would have crushed the phone and pile-drived the owner. :oyea:

Just wish people would shut the **** up when at concerts. There's no need to talk through the whole thing.

lol How do you hear people talking while the music is playing? Surely the music is loud enough to block it out.
