Now that Steven Tyler‘s memoir has been on the shelves for a couple of years, it looks like his Aerosmith bandmate Joe Perry is ready to follow suit with an autobiography of his own.

The new book, titled ‘Rocks: My Life In And Out Of Aerosmith,’ is due on store shelves Oct. 5, 2014, and Perry’s reportedly currently working on it with co-writer David Ritz, a novelist, rock writer, and lyricist who’s ghost-written and/or co-written books with a long list of stars that includes Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Etta James, and B.B. King. Blabbermouth quotes Perry as saying “It’s going to be my story, but it’s also entwined with Aerosmith and relationships there and the how and the why of that kind of stuff.”

According to Perry, he’s been mulling the idea of an autobiography for a long time. “People have been asking me about it for the last probably five or 10 years,” he explained. “I’ll definitely take a different path than the other guys, the way they put their books together. I read probably 40 biographies and autobiographies, musical ones. I can see how some worked and some didn’t. I hope this one works. There’s a lot to fit into 600 pages or whatever it’s gonna be. I’m pretty excited.”

One thing the book probably won’t focus on is American constitutional law, judging from comments Perry recently made on Twitter regarding the ongoing brouhaha surrounding A&E’s decision to suspend ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson from the show for disparaging remarks he made about homosexuality and the civil rights movement in a recent interview with GQ. “So what do you think about this Duck Dynasty hoopla?” asked Perry in a Dec. 22 tweet. “More crackin’ down on Freedom of Speech in the US or what?”

‘Rocks’ will serve as the third memoir to come out of the Aerosmith camp, following books published by Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer. Bassist Tom Hamilton is also reportedly at work on his own autobiography.
