KISS Overtakes NIRVANA In Fan Poll For ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

kisspromo2012_638.jpg

According to The Plain Dealer, KISS has overtaken NIRVANA in the Rock Hall's poll: KISS is at 15.2 percent, followed by NIRVANA at 14.87 percent, DEEP PURPLE at 11.89 percent, and YES at 10.52 percent.

The Rock Hall's official poll will be used to create a single online fan vote. That will be matched against about 600 voters consisting of artists, historians and members of the music business.

The artists who get the most votes will be announced around December and will be inducted at a New York City ceremony next April. Highlights from the event will be shown on HBO in May.

Me too!!! They have to get in! I was soooo disappointed on my visit to the HOF in August only to see one small 8inch Psycho Circus Paul Stanley action Figure (from the worst set of Kiss Action Figures!) & one ticket stub of Kiss w/ special guest Rush...Last time in I was there in 2003 they had Gene's Kiss Alive costume & Candelabra on display which was pretty cool. You know me....I am a Huge NY Dolls fan but they had a nice small display of stuff (guitar, drum head, lyrics,...etc) & Kiss (who...really there's no comparison between the two on what was accomplished by each in the music world). I'm not picking at the Dolls by any mean & they more than anything deserve their display.

Music From The Elder

One of the most underrated/underappreciated albums of the decade. Other than the goofy fanfare tracks, I love everything about this album. I'm not saying I loved it all when it first came out, I was as puzzled as anyone with the song selection, but I really liked most of it. I just listened to this album a few days ago and as always, it's a great trip down memory lane.

After Dynasty and Unmasked, the band was on a really short leash and I think a large percentage of their fans were ready to throw in the towel on these guys when Elder was released. Over time, I think that a lot of fans have grown to appreciate the uniqueness of some of the tracks and the sometimes coined "concept album" that they threw together here.

I, for one, will love this album until the end of my days. The Eric Carr era of KISS was outstanding in many ways (although the pop-hardrock thing from Crazy Nights was kinda weak).

by the time The Elder came out, I had moved on to so many other bands that the release of this record didn't even register on my music radar. None of my friends bought it so I think I may have heard it once on my entire teenage years. Now I can appreciate it better for what it is but don't really have any sentimental attachment to it like the other Kiss albums before or after this one and Unmasked. I really do love underrated and long forgotten albums from back in the day, I just don't love this one.

22 years ago today, we lost a great musician in Eric Carr at the age of 41. :uh:

Carr was diagnosed with heart cancer in early 1991. He had open heart surgery in April of the same year and was treated for cancer in the following months. His final appearance with KISS was in September 1991 at the MTV Video Music Awards. A few days later, he had a brain aneurysm due to a hemmorage in the brain caused by the cancer. He remained unconscious (not sure if it was a 'coma' or not) until the day he died, November 24, 1991.

RIP Eric!!! :rip:

Here is a nice set of gifs that were made from a video he made in
the hospital a couple of days after his heart surgery in April. I remember
seeing this video a few years ago and it made me sad, but his ending
also made me laugh (and still does). I have never heard an unkind
word regarding Eric. Supposedly he was one of those guys that was
truly lovable/likeable. He wasn't fake, he didn't need to be. A talented
musician that was taken from us way too soon.

Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick - Somebody's Waiting

This was written and recorded by Bruce, Eric and a couple of other guys. Not sure if this is the demo or finalized version. It was to be used in the cartoon that Eric had been working on producing/creating not long before he fell ill. I saw a video called "Tale of the Fox" a while back and it talked about that, along with video footage of Eric describing what he wanted to do with that cartoon.

Speaking of Tale of the Fox, here it is:

As I said, I saw this a few years back and I really liked it. We are lucky that he was surrounded by people that liked to record things. There is a ton of both video and audio footage that most people haven't seen before, including audio of him singing back in the late 60's.
