One of those moments that sucks you in like a vacume -
I've spent the last 3 -5 hrs listening to gd reading this thread and so on -
I read a spiritual drumming book Mickey Heart wrote - and that was about a year ago
since then I have retained alot of respect for the dead but was waiting for the right time to be absorbed into the music -
cheers to everyone here long live the dead

Bob Weir ‘Unable to Perform in Any Capacity,’ Furthur Band Cancels Show

Bob-Weir.jpg

The two incidents may be unrelated, but five days after Bob Weir collapsed onstage during his band Furthur’s set in Port Chester, N.Y., the group has canceled its headlining set at the BottleRock Napa Valley Festival in Napa, Calif. They were set to perform on May 9.

The next scheduled Furthur show isn’t until July 11, but Weir has solo concerts scheduled for June 26-30. A statement on the TRI Studios Facebook page indicates that he will be good to go for those dates, but that “Grateful Dead & Furthur co-founder Bob Weir is unable to perform in any capacity for the next several weeks.” TRI is Weir’s studio that broadcasts online video and audio.

The nature of what’s keeping Weir from returning to the stage wasn’t revealed in the Facebook post or in a statement at the band’s website. Weir and Furthur have played one show since the April 25 incident. Rolling Stone reports that he sang and performed “with force, as if to demonstrate his health and vitality” in Atlantic City, N.J. on April 27.

After Weir collapsed, his band helped him to a chair, and they finished the song. They all exited afterward and then returned without Weir; Phil Lesh said a strained shoulder was keeping his bandmate from returning. It’s the second time in two months that a Weir performance has ended prematurely. On March 4, he stormed offstage after growing irritated with a chatty audience.

Reading MP's update about Weir's condition I wonder why he would bother scheduling any concerts for the foreseeable future. If he's lost patience with a restless audience and stopped playing, then collapsed onstage the message is clear.

Time to call it a day, maybe drop into to your favorite club and do a few songs when you're in the mood rather than a series of gigs.

That article is awful and doesn't explain what happened with either show
I was at the port chester show. Bob weir was out of it because someone gave him an ambien instead of a pain killer. The dead had played 8 shows prior to that one and most reviews said he was still great.

The show he walked out on was because of some asshole fans nothing like that is happening at every show.

My guess on the cancelled shows is his shoulder needs rest. They said he was playing with a light guitar the last few shows but the shoulder was hurting him.
Bob will be back once it heals and while he isn't the same as 20 years ago he can still jam and sing.

^^Old musicians to me are no different than athletes, there comes a time when you can't do it anymore and end up tarnishing your legacy.

If it is his shoulder then maybe he will be back. I know one thing for certain AK, I don't take ANY medicine without knowing what it is...and neither should Weir.

I don't know I saw Segovia at age 91 and glad I got a chance to see him.
Although I've seen plenty of musicians who should have hung it up or were completely out of it on drugs.

Weir will be back. I completely agree I hate meds to begin with so taking the wrong thing :&
