Find Me A Song Like This.....

Many of us come here to talk about bands that we already like but there's also then need to find more music from people that fits our taste. You can't always just look up a band in the many non-personal ways online and find something that fits. The best suggestions are personalized from those who know your likes or other fans of the bands you like that have searched themselves for similar bands. Here's kind of a community game and exercise in finding a song you want based on traits of another song or band you like. Here's some rules:

. The set up is simple. You help the person above by suggesting a similar song based on theirs and then you post a song by a band you want a similar sound to. Then the next person posts one for you and so forth and so forth.

. If you want a specific element of the sound in your song to be what people are looking for then specify what you want.

. If you are going to leave snarky asinine comments about either what anyone is looking for or has tried suggesting to you then you are not mature enough for this thread. Bye! :D

I'll start things off! :grinthumb

^^^ I don't know if you remember Billy Joel's minor hit from the 90s but this definetely has a gosphel element to it.

I'm looking for a kick-ass, melodic 70s/80s rock song like this one by a band I might not have heard of before.

Well, it wasn't easy, but I found this:

I don't know if it qualifies as a folk metal song, though. Musically, it's chorus is folk, and the verses are metal, but it's not a true melding of the two.

This one is a better blend:

It's not as heavy, more melodic, better vocally. And, there's some speed metal lurking just below the surface.

I didn't want to just type in 'Folk Metal' and paste the first video that came up, so I did a little research. This genre has been around for 20 years. I never knew until I opened this thread.

I also found this taste test of 10 Viking/Folk Metal bands. It's heavier than Folk Metal.

Viking metal? Really?

Ok, here's what I've been grooving on for the last few months.

This particular cut has the vocals of Katy Perry & the structure of Panic! At The Disco.

Your mission, should you accept it, would be to find me a song like this.

This tape will self destruct in five seconds.

I actually did some searching outside my own collection as I wanted to nail the sound. To tell the truth I'm not a huge Paramore fan and thought they had a generic straight rock sound UNTIL I tried to find your match. I think that's the beauty of this as people say a 1,000 bands sound alike and if you actually true to match sounds it's harder than you'd think. These guys and gals have the sweet pop like vocals that can rock as well with a Panic! At The Disco structure! I'll give you two tracks to judge but I think they are similar enough to where you may like it! :grinthumb

New Years Day-Do Your Worst and My Dear

Here's what I was going to suggest from my listening! It's not the same but it's pop punkish rock with young talented melodic vocaled chicks!

Cherri Bomb-Too Many Faces

Now what I want and have been craving for years is another pop rock track with a male vocalist that rides a beautiful piano melody preferably at a song length that at least exceeds 5 minutes! I want a ballad similar too this MOSTLY centered on piano but other instruments can be included as well! Vocal style and era don't matter. I do like the melodrama aspect of this though on a larger scale so keep that in mind! :)

I'm gonna take another shot here since last time you already owned my recommendation. :****: So, you said you wanted a pop rock song but also a ballad along with it being over 5 minutes long with the song centered around a piano. Tall order, but here is what I have for you. Hopefully, you haven't heard it before. Let me know what you think.

I've never been much of a metalhead but when I heard "Rainbow In The Dark" by Dio for the first time awhile ago, I thought it was a real cool song. What I liked about it was that it was hard rock/metal but was much more melodic than most metal is, mainly due to the accompanying keyboard riff. So...does anyone have a song or two they can recommend that has this same kind of melodic metal sound? Bear in mind I don't know the genre well at all and the only metal album I own is Maiden's "Number Of The Beast."

Maybe a bit of a long shot but I always liked the song Undertow by mr.Big. Great melodic (hard)rock.

It would be good if other members found some other examples for you.

Find me songs like Sledgehammer and Not Fragile from B.T.O. So a heavy bass with a dark grumbling voice.
