I really can't get enough of that cover of Painkiller. I love the original but this is a case where I prefer the cover.

Love this band. Everything they did from Human on is some of the best in the genre. Sound Of Perseverance itself transcends most notions of 'genre'. It blends Power, Progressive, & Death Metal in a way few can achieve or could even conceive of back then. It & Individual Thought Patterns are my favorites.

The vocals IMO shit on Priest's.

:wtf:

Same man. That solo is killer and the vocals IMO shit on Priest's.

Agreed with this. Much as I love the original, this cover shits all over it. Death touched even a song like this and made it better.

I freaking love DEATH but theres no way I could ever agree w/ something that out there. :heheh:

Chuck vs. Rob ...vocally Rob wins by a landslide..even Chuck would tell you that.

Not denying that overall, but in that track Chuck's vocals slayed Rob's IMO.

Totally agree.

Ill agree it is a bit out there, not trying to claim as fact, just if I was asked which I prefer I easily prefer Death's cover. lol I think Chuck's vocals slayed on this song to where I thought it was better than Rob which is not to say Rob was shit, damn this is a classic JP song. Dunno why. Its rare for me to like covers more but this one was in that mould for me and I absolutely love the JP one.I don't agree that Rob's vocals slay Chucks either since their vocals are different from one another so I see comparing them as pointless anyway.

11 years since the death of Chuck Schuldiner. Absolute legend of metal. RIP to one of the main pioneers of Death Metal.

Spirit Crusher is amazing. Richard Christy's drumming not only on that song, but on the album is IMO really some of the best drumming to ever be recorded in any genre. I honestly think he had the best work with Death. I love Hoglan and Reinert's work with Death, but I gotta say Christy had the most creative drumming out of the three of them.

Had to give this thread a bump since I've been on a massive progressive death metal binge recently (Death, Cynic, Opeth). Also since I jammed with a friend to Symbolic and gave it a raw recording. Control Denied is pretty good Riff, think you should check it out if you havent already.
