One of my fav Saxon records is Power And The Glory. Not a bad song on it.
The brilliant The Eagle Has Landed has been mentioned before I think.
Here's another song: Power And The Glory

My original vinyl copy had Suzie Hold On while my CD copy did not. But it is on my Wheels Of Steel CD. I have to listen again to see if that's a different version...and if the American release of PATG had Suzi Hold On only.

That version was killer...I love that song. If the Wheels Of Steel version is not the same one, it's still cool to have the tune on disc anyway.

I have both Wheels of Steel and Power and The Glory on vinyl. Suzie Hold On is on Wheels of Steel only. If you have a version of Power and The Glory with Suzie you might have some rarity?

I've been playing a lot of Saxon lately, especially Unleash The Beast and Power and The Glory.

This is a massive thread.
Thanks LG for a nicely done early posts on the band and which albums to look out for.

Haven't listened to any Saxon so far.
Thanks electric funeral for suggesting the band.
High on my list.

Thanks EF. Yes, surely :)

@LG: I am probably a completionist type. I am bit reluctant to jump straight into the best works of any band. I quite like to follow a band from start to end. This way I can see the evolution/maturity or regression of the band, and their musical styles and progession in the most natural way possible.
I know sometimes it is very hard to resist not jumping into the best work but I am quite willing to be patient. Also there is the anticipation factor knowing that there are some greater albums in the middle which keeps me stimulated.

Listening to their 1979 debut album.

I am just about 5 minutes into the album and I must say I have been massively impressed with the the Rainbow Theme song. Hard to judge the whole band based on a song but I think I am going to like this band a lot :)

First album is a good start, but the whole introduction to the band starts from the second album. :D

Just completed listening the debut album.
Rainbow Theme/Frozen Rainbow, Stallions Of The Highway and the milita guard stood out for me.
Judgement day had a massive solo to end with. :) very nice.
Big teaser, backs to the wall and still fit for boogie, they are regular hard-rock song, fast songs backed by guitar riffs. They are very good but didn't stood out.

Not a single bad song on the album at all (for a debut album). Overall the debut album is amazing.

Hunting their second album now :)

I'm the same when it comes to exploring a band for the first time, I try to start at the beginning and enjoy the journey.

Saxon is such an undervalued band, I have them rated right up there with Priest and Maiden.

Keep us up to date as you collect their ablums Zephead.:hab:
