Sabbath were pretty much "washed up" by 1975 in the UK, heavy rock was pretty much dead, Deep Purple was just about to implode, Uriah Heep had just released a 'crap album' in High & Mighty, Led Zeppelin were on "auto-pilot" and Tony and the boys couldn't get arrested!!. :woot:

Tony realised that Sabbath were "dead in the water" so he thought it was better to try and take the band in a new direction then keep ploughing the same 'boring' heavy rock path BUT Ozzy, Geezer & Bill didn't want to go a long with Tony and more importantly the Sabbath fan's didn't much care for where Tony wanted to go either thats why most Sabbath fan's don't like Technical Ecstasy EXCEPT ME!!. :D

But hey, Nazareth released Hair of the Dog, which proved to be a great heavy rockin' album. :grinthumb

To be honest, I put Technical Ecstasy above Never Say Die! and Paranoid. :peek

Yeah Nazareth's HAIR OF THE DOG album is a "great album" but Nazareth were looked upon as a "second division" rock band in the 1970s in the UK at any rate but i liked them without a doubt. :grinthumb

Sabbath's NEVER SAY DIE album is an ok album and even maybe a pretty good album??.
I originally bought it when it was first released on vinyl back in 1978 (i even bought the single release of Never say die b/w Hard road on purple vinyl i think it was??). Side 1 of the NEVER SAY DIE album works best for me with the title track Never say die followed by Juniors eyes, Johnny Blade & Hard road those four tracks always sounded good to me BUT side 2 somehow isn't as memorable for some reason, probably the songs aren't as strong??.

A Hard Road is probably the best song from NSD. I have that album on vinyl (I paid only £4 for both NSD and TE on the original Vertigo pressings), but I wouldn't consider to myself buying it on CD. Sabotage is still a heavy album with tracks like Hole in the Sky and Symptom of the Universe.

Yeah Sabbath's SABOTAGE album has grown on me (very slowly) over the last 10-12 years not that i listen to it much these days maybe once every 2-3 years??.

In 1970 in the UK BLACK SABBATH were the originators of HEAVY ROCK/HEAVY METAL (a long with DEEP PURPLE & URIAH HEEP in the UK) and therefore ARE a VERY IMPORTANT band and will always be so in (HEAVY) METAL. :grinthumb

I'm so happy you mentioned Uriah Heep, they are very underrated and did contribute to heavy metal, with tracks like Gypsy and Easy Livin'. Also I'd add Budgie to the list. :grinthumb

Yeah granted Nololob URIAH HEEP are underated by many (except there fan's and me) and they were in the same league as BLACK SABBATH & DEEP PURPLE, i really like there albums although it dipped a bit with the WONDERWORLD and HIGH & MIGHTY albums during the mid-1970s but thats no big deal.

A lot of heavy rock/metal fan's rate BUDGIE and rightly so BUT again that band was always a bit of a second division band which means that they never really made it into the BIG LEAGUE with the likes of BLACK SABBATH & DEEP PURPLE but a great rocking band all the same. :grinthumb

I love Seventh Star and was glad to get it on CD at last. Gotta be my favourite 1980s Sabbath album only behind Mob Rules.
