Not my best title but I am writing this thread to post some bands that I only have "One Of" their albums/tapes/CD's. For whatever reason everyone picks up music like this, whether a compilation album or a good live version of a band that you never bothered collecting. And some artists like the one I am starting with didn't release enough material to do a complete thread about so this can fulfill that role as well.

I am a borderline "Completionist", if that is even a word, so when I really like an artist I will go to Extreme lengths to get all of their works, or at least as many as I can.

Plus those of you who might like an artist, can maybe convince me or anyone else to give them another shot.

Here's my first one.

Tommy Bolin, the album "Private Eyes". I heard a song off this album in 1976 when it came out and absolutely had to get my hands on this record. The song was being used to advertise the local speedway, which hosted Drag races every summer. I know Tommy Bolin didn't do many solo albums, he died tragically of a drug overdose at the age of 25, but Private Eyes is a great record. I bought it for Post Toastee, but I have grown to love all of the songs over the years. Got lucky about 6 months ago and found a FLAC version and now have a great copy again.

Here's the song that got me interested.

The cover.

Hello!...Hello!...Hello!...Hello!...Hello!...Hello!...Hello!

I guess it's true what they say, You're never alone with a schizophrenic.:heheh:

Regardless I shall press onward.

Next is a fantastic recording, in this case the vinyl record is far better than the CD version, in fact the drum kit on the vinyl is stunning, and the CD sounds hollow by comparison. I have no idea how the engineers could botch such a great sounding recording but they did.

Edgar Winter's best album, "They Only Come Out At Night". When we saw the cover we were at a loss about what to think, an albino wearing tacky make-up? Boy were we in for a pleasant surprise when we played it. So much variety on this one, from slow easy ballads to all out rockers, Rick Derringer is on guitar as well, which makes it even more appealing. This is the only album of Edgar Winter I have, if anyone else has a recommendation for another CD you like then let me know please.

Their most famous song, this is a Vinyl version.

Sometimes you stumble across an album by sheer accident, and it ends up becoming one of your favorites. In this case another record my older brother owned when it was released and I borrowed it extensively. Ten Years After was Alvin Lee's band, and he wasn't shy about letting everyone know that fact, still despite the talent in the band they never equaled the quality of "A Space in Time". The only other recording I would acquire would be their legendary "Woodstock" set, other than that I find this one CD gives me everything I need from this band.

I disagree!

The only other recording I would acquire would be their legendary "Woodstock" set....

I think the Woodstock set actually gives a misleading impression of what the band was all about.

...other than that I find this one CD gives me everything I need from this band.

I have these four Ten Years After albums:

I would strongly recommend "Ssssh" and "Cricklewood Green". Those two albums really showcase just how good a blues-rock band Ten Years After was before being discovered by the Woodstock hippie contingent.

Thanks for the suggestions Fox, I have listened to most of their albums, and A Space In Time is definitely my pick of the litter.;)

I thought their performance at Woodstock was great, and helped them further their career, always a good thing I would say.

I've actually found that to be the case more often than not.

Hep, I have found it to be true both ways, some CD's are excellent when done properly, and some vinyl albums are less than stellar as well. It depends on the time and the method they use to do the transfer, but that Edgar Winter album is definitely better on old fashioned vinyl than CD.

Magic, I have a compilation of Red Rider/Tom Cochrane that has all their best songs, and Scandal I have that album in MP3 and her greatest hits in FLAC, I still love the song "The Warrior'.

That album is a top priority for me. Great organ tracks! Despite that it's always slipped through the cracks for me and I've never picked up a copy. I'll have to remind myself next time I drop into a used record shop.
