Duuuude, I was JUST watching Goodfellas last night actually. One of the best films ever with a really cool soundtrack! I love "Then He Kissed Me"... and though "Gimme Shelter" is one of the most overused songs ever it still has a good place in the film. I never ever tire of that movie! Go get your shine box. :grinthumb

Here's a magnificent orchestral score from what many people consider the best Star Trek movie ever made, "The Wrath of Khan". Before you get twitchy about Trekkies and all the silliness, you should just give this one a spin, it is glorious, stupendous and splendiferous music. James Horner at his very best I think.

Indeed!

Its very underrated feature film sequel Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is also James Horner at his very best...

^^One word sums up my distaste for that series Lynch..."Starbuck". I thought Dirk Benedict's character was bad, but compared to the new version he was Oscar material for me.

I thought he was alright, but agree with the rest of your post!

100 Albums Every Science Fiction and Fantasy Fan Should Listen To: 51-70

58. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan — original soundtrack by James Horner (1982)

The late 1970s and early 1980s are full of epic soundtracks, from Star Wars to Superman to Indiana Jones. But for our money, this is the most memorable and distinctive of the bunch, and the biggest pleasure to listen to on its own. Fittingly for a movie that's both about dealing with aging and mortality and kick-ass space combat, this soundtrack melds a melancholy main theme with some stirring action cues. Instant goosebumps. - CJA

While going through my vinyl record collection I came across my STAR WARS soundtrack! There are some Star Wars people on this board?

This is the original two record set released in 1977.

Original Soundtrack Composed and Conducted By John Williams
Performed By The London Symphony Orchestra

My copy still has the poster and everything!

I've always thought this was an AWESOME album!

I haven't looked recently but the last time I checked you could not get this complete version of the soundtrack on CD, only "selections" along with tracks from the other Star Wars movies.

I remember in the high school orchestra we had this conductor who was all about Baroque, Baroque, Baroque and wouldn't have the orchestra play anything "modern". Somehow we talked him into letting us do the Star Wars Main Title probably for the winter concert. We had a blast playing it! (So I know or used to know the cello part at least! Listen for Princess Leia's theme ;))
