Track list.
1. Last Rites/Loved to Death
2. Killing is My Business...And Business is Good
3. The Skull Beneath the Skin
4. Rattlehead
5. Chosen Ones
6. Looking Down The Cross
7. Mechanix

To simply put this album, it was Megadeth's debut album that was low budget and production wise showed how low budget it was, although that to me is the real charm of this particular album. Mustaine was hell bent on getting revenge on Metallica at this time, problem was Metallica at this time had 2 albums out already. Dave Mustaine got together a great group of himself, David Ellefson, Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson.

This album really defined speed metal more then any other album to me at that time, the extremely anger driven riffs, the overall gritty nature of the musicianship especially in songs like Rattlehead, Last Rites which had an interesting piano opening. Then you get Mechanix which is basically the much shorter and faster version of The Four Horsemen.

KIMB was an album that didn't get Megadeth right on the map just yet but they certainly showed the metal community at that time just who they were and what they were capable of.

To sum it up, I think this album considering how low budget it was, is a fantastic gritty and raw debut album. Took speed metal to an extreme level of power.

My favourite songs.

My video review for it.

This is one album that I don't give a lot of listen to in terms of Megadeth's discography, however when I do listen to it, I get the same impression that you do about it. It may not be the best album, but it certainly isn't one of the worst albums.

I don't really see it as anything but a raw album, the production was done with a very limited budget, considering that fact I think the album kicks ass and if anything is now under rated.

 on the review!

Ok, now this explains a lot! Thank you! I didn't acquire Killing ... until relatively recently. The CD I have is a 2002 re-release. I think I recall Dave saying he wanted to remix/remaster the album at some point which was what I thought this was ... maybe it's actually not and it is just a straight re-release which includes These Boots and three demos/"bonus tracks". This album is definitely very raw sounding which normally I don't mind and even almost like/prefer at times but I found even I noticed the "production" or general sound of it struck me as ... to say it politely ... "off". Yet it also struck me that, ok, I think there is something really cool going on here artistically (and historically too) so in the end I do like it. Not my favorite Megadeth album (still haven't decided that one) but still a keeper.

I think considering the low budget the album was made in, and the environment I love the album. It is a pure speed metal album. :)
