When I watched a documentary about Freddie a couple years back his "smile" is almost identical to his mother...kind of eerie actually. I do recall many people including Queen's management asked him why he didn't get his teeth fixed...after all he was always a little embarrassed about them. But he felt it might affect his singing, so he just carried on and let people say whatever they wanted.

I never even realized Freddie was from India originally...and was the biggest rock star ever from Asia. I guess for me it's about the music more than anything else as long as some of my favorite artists are not ax-murderers etc. then it really doesn't matter to me about their roots.

I think Freddie was from Madagascar (to parents of Indian origin), which is in the Indian Ocean, but is nearer to East Africa. There are a lot of Indians in East Africa. Remember when Idi Amin ethnically 'cleansed' Uganda of a massive Asian population in the seventies?

A little ditty from a TV documentary on Queen a little while ago: before Queen became massive, Freddie Mercury lived in a flat, with some shared facilities, in a converted house. One neighbour said he could hear the piano notes for what later became Bohemian Rhapsody, but Freddie was not noisy and everybody liked him.

There is a supposed picture of Jimmy with his "first guitar" circulating the net but don't be fooled, it's not him. If anyone can find an authentic childhood pic of Jimmy it would be like Christmas morning for me!

Yes you can definitely tell that's a little Jimmy in the school pic Apparently there's a photo online somewhere of Jimmy doing hurdles at school - he was a pretty nifty hurdler so I hear!

You were close, it is just north of Madagascar. Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania, in East Africa.
