Agree with you on that Powerage. You're looking for The Turtles (for example) and you have to slog through four rows of albums labeled "T". That can be a real drag if you're in a hurry or you know exactly what you want. I will admit that sometimes if you do this you do stumble across something cool that you weren't looking for but glad you found.

Your last point I also agree with and have found stuff by just taking the plunge so to speak. Looking through the artists I'm after, if I come up short and don't find anything, I'll be much more inclined to look through letters or random sections.

I think the thing I miss about record stores most is the choice. I mention Reading again, but at one time it had a Fopp , 2 HMV's, a Virgin [now Zaavi online], 2 sound machine stores [1 for CDs and 1 for vinyl pretty much] and another independent store called Rustys. All within like a 10 minute walk of each other!

Now there is 2 HMV's and 1 sound Machine unless Nolo can correct me.

Actually another one I love is in Sydney. Utopia Records I order stuff from.
All things rock and metal in there.

Nolo is busy with school and getting ready for his band's first real gig Powerage he'll be back next week. He told me he has had great luck over the years at "boot sales". We call those "flea markets" here.

Oh sweet, I wonder if he's playing a venue I know and if he needs a roadie :heheh:

Ah yes, also referred to as car boot sales. Usually a bunch of people with their car boots open freezing there arses off at 7 in the morning in the car park of a football ground or school :heheh:

I only really buy second hand vinyls, never CDs as snobby as that might sound. Can get most of them brand new very cheap online anyway.

I've never really taken an interest in them, but have always wondered if those that do actually play them or just collect them for novelty's sake. And if they do play them, does that depreciate the value or do they keep two copies to have one to play? I'm confused. :bonk:

I think playing them would have the opposite, appreciating the vinyl quality should be what it is about, although I can understand why some would be reluctant to play or even take a really rare vinyl album out of its case.

I posted this in another thread somewhere, but I have this record store here, Vintage Vinyl that's pretty cool. They even have live acts perform there.

LINK: Vintage Vinyl Records - CDs Records DVDs Imports Blu-Ray - NJ Legendary Independent Record Store

Removed the images so they didn't appear on the page twice.

That shop looks amazing! I went onto the link and started to search through the catalogue, got loads of great stuff on there, even obscure stuff to America like Status Quo and Dr Feelgood! Plus the prices were pretty reasonable too.

I looked at Amoeba's site in LA the other day, after watching the Lemmy film and seeing him in there. Plus I've got a Paul McCartney live album from there. Looks great as well.

Maybe I'll do a record buying tour of the US for a holiday :heheh:

It is a very cool store and they have some well known people play or give autographs. I think you can order online too. :grinthumb
