No. But some people do place him in the sub-genre based on that he was the first one to use a 100 watt amp and his use of reverberation and his staccato picking. Where does one draw the line. Ridiculous IMO.

I saw him on a TV special not too long ago, he's still in good shape and playing guitar.

He made a comment that stuck with me,,,"When I play my guitar it "hurts", like I'm torturing both it and myself, and that is how it has always been for me when I pick mine up".

Something close to that anyway.;)

He has some metal flourishes from what I saw, but I never considered him proto metal.

:oyea:

I've said yes before and I'll say yes now. NOT just because of the picking or the speed, I mean yeah that, but the melody here as well.

It had to have helped in the snowball effect that became metal one day down the road. I don't think he knew it though.

We can argue punk at least.

Love the break down on The Wedge here at 1:12

Some more proto speed with Nitro

No. The structures can be interpreted as such but isn't he mainly surf music? I looked up the term and a wickipedia cited Blue Cheer, The Who, The Yardbirds, The Jeff Beck Group and The Kinks are early proto-types of the genre.

The Kinks? See? Really where does one draw the line. Yeah..You Really Got Me, All day and All Of The Night.

But melodically speaking, couldn't alot of these bands been inspired by Dick Dale? His speed and mysterious melodies?

A snowball effect.
