I agree at finding the best quality studio recordings, I think he used to play the bootlegs once and then lock them away, I believe he is replacing a lot of his vinyl with cd's now. The only reason I think is for space reasons:)

I would spin a set at least every now and then but not too often though I've gone through extended periods where I haven't listened to one. Mind you, I don't play just their stuff. Thank goodness my fanaticism isn't THAT extreme.

I revisit a particular show that I haven't heard in a long while and it makes me smile. Absence makes the heart go fonder that sort of thing...

^^Nothing wrong with that George...a blast from the past is great fun. I was speaking strictly from a sound quality perspective, I am an audiophile so collecting all kinds of different studio versions is more my thing than Bootlegs.:cheers2

Bruce I know you are a discerning collector which is cool. I have to side with you that if you are going to listen to a recording might as well be the BEST that is available. I have these two 180g 4 LP sets in my collection.

Played each twice...then I just play the commercial regular versions. Love that "organic" sound flowing from my turntable to my speakers. So relaxed, sweet and very rounded. If I don't feel like going through the whole LP procession, I play the CDs with a tube buffer in between my DAC and the pre-amp that gives a similar yet not exact feel.

^Whenever I talk like that to my casual friends, they look at me quizzically like I am from another planet. On the subject of bootlegs they are merely either for the novice or the seriously invested fan. There are versions of the BBC shows though that put the current release to shame along with being unedited on top of it.

Those look great...

Yeah I am upgrading my analog gear next year, this move to the Cloud crap and the labels stopping production/distribution of CD's after next year has pissed me off. I'm going to re-collect as many of my old favorite vinyl records as I can to replace the ones I lost in the fire years ago.

I have a similar box, it makes a big difference when it comes to the sound of a CD.

Thanks! The first time, I used one...I went "whoa there!" I haven't looked back since. I have the first but looking for the second so I can do some "tube" rolling. Analog experimentation and assembling a rig is very involving. You have to be selective about cables [rca or balanced], speakers [single posts or bi-amping], your choice of a pre-amp, the amp itself and so on and so on. But that is the fun! Some pre-amps now come with sub outs which is unique.

I also have Japanese pressings of my LPs that I have not let go as well as some British ones. Love those obis that come with them. Maybe it's just me but the sound on the imports have more clarity than the U.S. pressings. I first noticed it on Beatles releases so I sought them out as much as I can.

I can see you are an audiophile yourself, just by reading your post...:grinthumb

Indeed to get the best results you do have to pay attention to the smallest details but it's fun and I've always loved collecting researching audio equipment.

Japanese and British/Dutch/German vinyl pressings were always a step up from what we got up here, hell the vinyl itself is far better quality and a lot heavier too...always wondered about that after buying the White Album import from England it was so much better than our regular albums I was shocked, amazed then mad that we were getting shafted by our own distributors.

I'm ashamed to say I'm not a huge fan of bootlegs, but have decided to purchase as many Zep bootlegs as I can. I need some good recommendations if any of you know any.

Don't buy them. They are easily available on the net, through torrent downloads and trading. Can help with both if needs be.

Strongly recommend "Listen To This Eddie" which I believe is from the LA Forum on the '77 US Tour.

Thanks! I'm sure I've read about all of these bootlegs already. I'm sure there are tons to sift through. I wouldn't do this for any other band though.
