The following thread will be featuring "My Favortive Modern Progressive Rock Bands" ...obviously!!! haha

What I mean by that is progressive rock bands ( as opposed to progressive metal bands ) that were formed in the 90's ,2000's and onward that are still carrying the progressive torch handed down from the late 60' and the 70's.

I will be starting this up with one of my very favorite bands from the genre very soon so those interested ....watch this spot :grinthumb

Unlike you many of us just share music without trying to pretended to be "experts' on the subject. Just because it's obvious that your very sensitive and frail ego is involved in all your posts you obviously assume others are like you and are equally pathetically inclined.

OH but wait...you're the expert on prog around here

Members: Michele Epifani (vocals, organ, synthesizer, Mellotron, electric piano, piano, harpsichord, guitar, recorder), Simone Antonini (drums, percussion, 1997-2001, 2005-present), Alessandro Del Conte (bass, 1997-2000), Stefano Colombi (guitar, 1999-present), Piero Ranalli (bass, 2000-present), Mino Vitelli (drums, 2001-05)

2003 Areknamés
2006 Love Hate Round Trip
2007 Live at Burg Herzberg Festival 2007
2010 In Case of Loss...

Areknames are an Italian band that play an old school style of dark progressive rock, the use of analog equipment adds a great deal to the vintage appeal and the overall old school sonic vibe. Comparisons with Van Der Graaf Generator can be make due to the brooding atmosphere. Michele Epifani's vocal style is also similar to Peter Hammill's.
Musically Gnidrolog, Anglagard , VdGG and an assortment of others, including fellow Italian progsters of the past come to mind, and even some Black Sabbath like riffs make themselves known from time to time. Areknames are anything other than a copycat band as they take all of their influences and mix them into something which stands on it's own as their own sonic animal. I own all the studio albums on CD and plan to purchase the Live album soon ....
Starting w/ the self titled debut .....
