Is there any difference in quality between 8 track and vinyl/CD by the way? As for me 8 track is the only thing I have never seen before...

There is... Both vinyl and Cd are much, much, much more listenable than the 8 track cassette tape. On the latter tracks are moved around for space considerations and in some instances were ever split in between programs. Yuck...

I can imagine how better vinyls and CDs are comparing to 8 tracks... I've been looking just as an example for Deep Purple 8 tracks and those are very rare, just meant that they [8tracks] were not so popular in use.

Those were the cream of the crop back in the 70's Peacheater. But I never considered buying one, the reel to reel tapes were hard to find and very expensive. I almost bought an old Tandberg off e-bay a few years ago, but I figured I might as well spend that money on something else.

Aren't those also quite a chore to set-up and start? I am aware of users who said that they made superior recordings on them because it utilized a larger tape.

^^You certainly had some fussing around to do with the Reels, but they were definitely they best quality media you could get back then. Up to the 90's bands were still recording on Reel to Reel tape machines, and some artists still use them now. Kid Rock is one that comes to mind, he has his own analog studio then converts the music to digital and they make the CD's from that.

Nac almost single handed did away w/ R2R tape. Those decks to this day are worth every penny. As with any media, it can be a great listening experience at the right price.

^^If you are talking about Nakamichi cassette decks they were one of the best ever made, but they didn't replace the studio Reel to Reel decks, those stayed the standard until the digital age arrived. And I think some studios still use their tape decks.

Don't know about studio, but I remember people going to decks like Nac to get rid of the hassle of R2R. Even going to high end stores the push was on for good decks. You have to remember the better sound in your auto also !
Come to think of it R2R in studios would make since, for different tracking in the tape alone...
