I respect what Reggae stands for in Jamaica beyond just musical expression...not the copious use of marijuana though...:heheh:

My older brother was a big Bob Marley fan, so I got to know him first.

I have heard of all the bands/artists posted in here so far, but as I said a little reggae goes along way for me mon...:grinthumb

I agree.

I like Roots Reggae mostly because of the quality and themes in the songs........really meaningful and deep songwriting and of course, musically, all the great rhythms.....

I'm a big fan of music that addresses political/social justice issues. It really speaks to me.

Alot of Reggae music does that really well.

^^I agree with you TH, I love a well written song that makes a statement, whether I agree or disagree with the position, The Clash is one of my favorite bands for that reason. Sandinista has a couple of reggae style songs on it.

Joe Strummer & Paul Simonon were very into Reggae and it was a big musical influence on them.

Revolution Rock on the London Calling album is another example of that.

Healer,

I'll be posting some of my faves in here later today, but I was wondering, is this thread open to traditional Ska (not punk/ska) and Rock Steady as well?
